If you’re going to Paris anytime between now and the 8th of August why not take in Dainese’s A toute épreuve exhibition that’s being held at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie.
Dainese presents the history of protection from its origins to the current most innovative technologies and a look into the future.
The exhibit traces a correspondence between Nature and the first protective armors; from the armadillo’s carpace to suits of armors to a gallery leathers which have protected some of the greatest motorcycling champions of all time.
There’s also a short film by Italian director Ermanno Olmi entitled “La Vestizione Dell’Eroe” (dressing a hero), which describes the ritual of preparation of the knights of long ago through images of dressing before a race of Valentino Rossi, a modern knight preparing to face “battle”.
Another part of the exhibition is dedicated to innovative and technological development of technical sports clothing, including the D-Air leathers that several GP riders are now using and have already shown to save riders from serious injuries.
If you can’t be in Paris, here’s a video mini tour of the exhibition.

Next time anyone scoffs about the idea of wearing a helmet, no matter what type of motorcycle or scooter he or she rides, show them this pic of Marco Simoncelli’s AGV helmet.
The Italian rider highsided at the Sepang 2 tests at the speed of 115 km/h and came out of the crash with a badly scraped lid and a couple of rips in his Dainese D-Air leathers. Simoncelli suffered a mild concussion after he hit his head and taking some bumps and bruises on his body, but he’s walking and talking and ready to get back in the saddle.
Would someone not wearing a helmet end up the same way?

Leon Haslam took his first ever Superpole today at Phillip Island, so we decided to give you a closer look at Pocket Rocket’s new helmet design for the 2010 season. Designed by Drudi Performance, the Arai lid is two toned with blue on the right side and red on the left with a big white ‘H’ on the front and has kept the very popular angel/devil motif on his racing #91.
Arai will be releasing a replica on the Chaser model, that will be available mid year.

Titillation aside (no pun intended), this is actually a very serious piece of equipment and I can only imagine that many a girl will thank Dainese for it. These chest protectors for women are designed to be worn either alone, or connected to a Dainese back protector, and can be worn under most leathers and female motorcyclist gear. The Dainese Thorax Pro Lady and Thorax Lady have flexible side plates, adjustable straps, double jersey liner and polyethylene foam padding. Get your man to get you one now! See more at Dainese.com.

New Suomy gloves for 2010 include the Ipermotard and Kangaroo models. The Ipermotard represents a glove made specifically for this growing market in motorcycle gear and it’s made from 100 percent soft leather with carbon and metal reinforcements across the knuckles. The finger part of the Suomy Ipermotard glove is shaped slightly for an ergonomical fit and has breathable parts and “fish scale” work for greater mobility.
The Ipermotard glove also features anti-slip material across the palm and thumb for better handling, while the ring and pinky finger are knit together for better protection in the case of a fall. Velcro closures are part of the glove, which is available in four different colours from sizes XS to XXL.
The Suomy Kangaroo glove is made from kangaroo leather with again, the carbon fibre and magnesium reinforcements in the knuckles. It also has wrist protection and the same style of ergonomic finger shape and breathability. Palm and thumb have grip material included and the stitching on the glove is made from kevlar for greater durability. The Suomy Kangaroo is also available in four different colours with sizing from XS to XXL. For more information see the Suomy site.
Kudos to Jorge Lorenzo for keeping that “bitch face” on while being draped all over by model Tatiana. Check out these pics of Jorge Lorenzo’s sexy 2010 calendar for Barracuda, and the backstage video after the jump. See our Jorge Lorenzo pin-up post for last year’s backstage video, minus the man himself. I’ll be frank and say that about halfway through the video after the jump I got very confused as to the actual motorcycle accessories and clothing being modelled. Your response is probably along the lines of “who cares”? Enjoy!
Some good things are on the way with the Alpinestars 2010 spring range, starting with the “Calgary” jacket. It’s made from waxed cotton and has more pockets than you’ll ever need, both inside and out, and has an adjustable waist. Incorporated are elbow and shoulder protectors. The Calgary jacket comes in black in sizes from S-XXXXL.
Also new for 2010 is the Bullit men’s leather jacket, making simplicity very sexy. It’s available in white, black or brown and while it looks minimalist, you can still house back and chest protectors if required. It has in-built shoulder and elbow padding, and both exterior and interior pockets.
Other additions to the Alpinestars range include the Tech 8 boot, the Tech 1-R race suit, Stella Georgia ladies jacket, Velocity men’s leather jacket and Afrika Gore-Tex boots. That won’t be all for the new season, but it’s enough to make the coming of the warmer season even more tempting. See Alpinestars.com for details on the lifestyle clothing range, too.
If you wanted to see the work that goes into your motorcycle gear, you should check out these interesting videos from AXO on the manufacturing process of a pair of motocross boots and a leather suit. The first video shows a professional, AXO MX boot in the making, while the second, after the jump, shows a leather suit being made. After seeing these videos, I’ll never complain about the cost of things again!

This fantastic video shows Armadillo scooterwear in more than just a simple motorcycle commercial. It’s the perfect video for a motorcycle gear brand that calls itself “armadillo”, and it certainly makes scootering look edgy and fun. Armadillo deals with clothing, which we see put to the test in these Vespa stunts as the guy goes blasting through fire and glass.
The video was made by Stink Films, which even got itself a Cannes Festival prize this year. Armadillo scooterwear includes some very cool stuff (I’m quite taken with the red mackintosh myself), all of it featuring body armour just in case you are “tough enough” for city scooter riding. For more details, see the Armadillo scooterwear site.
This looks like a sneak preview from Caberg Helmets of their new and very glamorous looking line of jet helmets with Swarovski crystals called B True Glammie and just in time for the EICMA show that takes off in less than twenty four hours.
