Call us vain, but even when riding we women like to look good and this Iris jacket designed specifically as a women’s motorcycle garment from Ixon fits the bill both in terms of fashion and safety. Ixon jackets describes this model as a “roadster retro” look that can be worn in all seasons thanks to its waterproof inserts and its removable winter lining.

The waterproof inserts are made from Drymesh breathable fabric, while the overall Spytech material is soft and flexible enough for good movement. Extra padding and protection is included around the shoulders and elbows and there is some back protection which can be removed and replaced with a full back body armour sheath. The sleeves are slightly formed already, and the zippers are covered with flaps while the wrist closure is a press stud button.

The Ixon Iris women’s motorcycle jacket also has plenty of cubby holes for all our gear, including five pockets. The retro look comes from patches on the front and the sleeve stripes come in black and red or black and white. The winter lining is a quilted look in purple or red. The jacket comes in either black or white and costs about €139.

This video isn’t as creative as the previous marketing efforts from UK company, Armadillo scooterwear, but it’s still quite funky and shows off just how cool its range of urban scootering gear is. The new motorcycle jackets for men include the Armadillo Travis B M65 jacket and the Alex Trench. For women there is a new Betsy Field jacket with lining, and a very nice looking women’s trenchcoat as well. The video is in time for your Christmas motorcycle shopping and if you’re going to be scootering around the city this winter, you won’t look any cooler than this.

Italian motorcycle gear maker Tucano Urbano presented at this year’s EICMA Show a unique type of airbag motorcycle protection gear. Not as high tech as Dainese’s D-Air or Alpinestars New Tech Air leathers, but it’s much more versatile and has in mind those every day riders, who don’t want to look their heading for a day at the track and more importantly, it’s less expensive.

This airbag can be worn underneath any type of motorcycle jacket, be it a summer or winter jacket that already has elbow and shoulder protection, and it comes in two adjustable sizes for women and an adjustable one for men.

Activation is mechanical, inflation is CO2 based and triggered in 80 microseconds and an easy reloading kit will be available as an optional.

Tucano Urbano’s airbag will go on sale on March 1st 2011, and the cost should be around 380.00 euros and 490.00 euros with a light weight summer jacket.

Brembo have created a new motorcycle jacket called “Life Jacket” which besides being fashionable and stylish, a must these days, also contains an air bag system.

The Brembo Life Jacket meets the need to protect the torso, chest and back and neck; those parts of the body that undergo almost 50% of all injuries in motorcycle or scooter accidents. The air bag deploys in just 80 milliseconds thanks to Brembo’s new activator developed with Helite and Sabelt who designed the inertial reel connection cable that is attached to the motorcycle that triggers the airbag. The system remains inflated for 60 seconds and then the jacket slowly returns to its original size.

The “Life Jacket” will be available in three models for men and two for women and in six colours (white, black, blue, red, silver gray and sand mélange). The fabric is Oxford nylon and Teflon and are very light, the lightest jacket weighs just a little more than a kilo while the heaviest reaches a kilo and half.

We had some bad spring weather in Europe this year and so most riders are rearing to go for summer. The usual brands for your summer motorcycle gear are available although there are some interesting novelties on the market. Dainese has released its “Air” range - designed as light, breathable clothing so you can enjoy just enough of that breeze when riding.

The Shotgun Tex (don’t you love the name?) jacket is a light jacket with plenty of air ventilation, made from Mugello elastic fibre. The internal lining has silver ions to maintain hygiene. Protective padding is included on the shoulders and elbows and there is room for a back shield as well. The jacket has a zip across the bottom to connect it to trousers and it costs about 219 euros.

The New Drake Air pants can be matched with the jacket. They are made from Cordura Comfort material and have adjustable zips around the waist and legs, and internal thigh zips for more ventilation. The Sanitized lining completes the same attention to hygiene seen on the Shotgun Tex jacket and the New Drake Air Pants also have two front and one rear pocket. They cost about 179 euros.

2010 Dainese summer motorcycle gear

Dainese has also produced Air Tex summer gloves both for touring and urban use. They are made from net mesh fabric on the back of the hand for maximum ventilation and have a reinforced palm made from goat’s leather for better feeling. Soft inserts are included in the knuckles and there is an adjustable wrist strap. The Air Tex summer gloves cost about 59 euros.

Completing the Dainese summer range are the Sechura boots, designed specifically to be your special touring companions. They are made from D-Stone and leather materials, offering resistance to any abrasion but still with plenty of ventilation thanks to the 3D bubble internal lining. The laces are protected by an additional velcro covering, there is an anti-slip sole and reflective inserts. The Sechura boots cost about 169 euros.

Thinking that Batman Motorcycle leathers are slightly out of style? Is Wolverine your favourite Marvel Super Hero? Now you can get a chance to purchase a set of leathers modeled after the suit that Wolverine dons in the X2: X-MEN UNITED flick.

UD Replicas under license from Marvel Entertainment, LLC.UD is going to handcraft replica jackets, gloves and pants using four different types of leathers to make the X2 Wolverine Motorcycle Suit, that has removable CE-approved body armor; gloves with built-in, anti-skid Kevlar in the palm’s leather lining; and an interior, form-molded muscle suit sandwiched into the jacket’s torso section.

David Pea, owner of UD Replicas, the officially licensed division of Universal Designs Ltd says: “No matter who you are, when you put it on and zip it up, you look like a Super Hero.”

Check out these sexy women’s motorcycle jackets from Ixon. The Ixon Flora jacket has a sports cut perfect for the female shape, and is made from Spythec synthetic materials with mesh panels for ideal ventilation. The Flora jacket has a floral motif on the chest and left sleeve for that feminine touch.

The Ixon Flora is perfect for spring and summer, but is also water proof for when it rains during the hot season. The waterproof insert can be removed and worn separately from the jacket, making it flexible and adaptable to other uses. Other features include a wind proof flap over the zipper, and CE Arron protection in the elbows and shoulders. A back armour piece can also be incorporated.

The collar is shorter and can be adjusted with the velcro closure, also used on the wrists and waist for a perfect fit. The sleeves are cut to fit the arm shape and the jacket has four pockets: two external pockets with zip closure and two internal pockets. A pair of trousers can be fitted with a loop closure to the bottom of the jacket. Sizes XS to 3XL are available and colours include either the Black-Silver combination, or the lovely Caffé-Leather mix. The Ixon Flora jacket costs about 119 euros.

Icon is a motorcycle clothing and accessories company with an edgy, clever way of presenting itself. That’s a very boring introduction to a company with such street-smart, savvy marketing but that is probably the closest we can get to a standard definition. Icon makes motorcycle-specific jackets, helmets, pants, gloves and footwear, and has a lifestyle clothing range as well. If you want a jacket with a big fat Suzuki ‘S’ on it, they’ve got one. If you want something with studs and a skull and crossbones, they’ve got that too (called ‘Victory Metal God’). And if you’re a girl, they’ve got some fantastic women’s motorcycle gear meaning you can make as much of a statement as your riding partner.

With a blog, and Twitter, MySpace and Facebook pages, Icon knows what they’re doing when it comes to marketing and social media. Check out this Icon video episode from the Slabtown Chronicles, showing that they’re way more than just a gear manufacturing company. Icon is more like a media machine with a motorcycle focus, and we like what we see. The animated video is violent but kind of ironic, too. See it after the jump and check out the Icon website for more info on the company.

Some good things are on the way with the Alpinestars 2010 spring range, starting with the “Calgary” jacket. It’s made from waxed cotton and has more pockets than you’ll ever need, both inside and out, and has an adjustable waist. Incorporated are elbow and shoulder protectors. The Calgary jacket comes in black in sizes from S-XXXXL.

Also new for 2010 is the Bullit men’s leather jacket, making simplicity very sexy. It’s available in white, black or brown and while it looks minimalist, you can still house back and chest protectors if required. It has in-built shoulder and elbow padding, and both exterior and interior pockets.

Other additions to the Alpinestars range include the Tech 8 boot, the Tech 1-R race suit, Stella Georgia ladies jacket, Velocity men’s leather jacket and Afrika Gore-Tex boots. That won’t be all for the new season, but it’s enough to make the coming of the warmer season even more tempting. See Alpinestars.com for details on the lifestyle clothing range, too.

If you wanted to see the work that goes into your motorcycle gear, you should check out these interesting videos from AXO on the manufacturing process of a pair of motocross boots and a leather suit. The first video shows a professional, AXO MX boot in the making, while the second, after the jump, shows a leather suit being made. After seeing these videos, I’ll never complain about the cost of things again!
