I have to say I quite like lobster but it almost gives me the creeps seeing this motorcycle model made from lobster. The crayfish gets sculpted into a motorcycle by Huang Mingbo, who is described as a food carving artist. The funny motorcycle pics come from a seminar on cooking art in China and show the scale model right down to the last details including the wheel. At the very least we’re impressed by his efforts.

Get your stuff together and get back to work! How much stuff can you fit on a Moto Guzzi Griso? Or a BMW K1300R? Quite a lot, by the look of it, but the motorcycle pic below deserves a special mention just for the beach umbrella. These pics come from our guys at Motoblog.it and show Italians on holiday in August. We went on holiday in a hatchback but come to think of it, most of the stuff that fit in our boot could be stored on these bikes with a bit of strategic placement.

It’s almost hard to believe in looking at this Aprilia RS250 Racing model in the photo that we’re talking a bike that was built a good 12 years ago now. The two-stroke model certainly brings back memories of the heydays of 250cc racing. Originally built to celebrate Aprilia’s success in the GP250 category, the model already featured nearly everything Aprilia had to throw at it in terms of technology. Even now this 1998 Aprilia RS250 looks like it would hold more than just its own on a track day.

With the new EBR 1190rs again pushing the boundaries in motorcycle manufacturing, it seems appropriate to check out some of the previous Buell creations - even from Harley-Davidson days - to see how Erik Buell has always stayed true to his innovative principles. In fact, probably one of the difficulties with Buell bikes were that they weren’t so approachable at first glance and had to be ridden to be understood.

But there’s something to be said for purist bikes and in these pics we get quite an elegant restoration of a Buell S3 Thunderbolt, whose owner, Alberto says: “It’s a very characteristic motorcycle, with a unique style and personality. Mine is perhaps the only example left in Italy in this condition and I managed to “restore” it with a lot of passion and help from friends who love two-cylinder Buells.”

As Europe comes into its busy holiday season, we had to share these pics of the “20,000 pieghe” competition. It’s a European motorcycle ride across five days that starts from Pavia in Italy and goes to Sestriere. This year saw 150 motorcycles take part, all of whom hooked up at the end with the Cesana-Sestriere rally revival and its historic cars. If you’re interested in this motorcycle ‘tour’ across northern Italy, check out the pics below to see some of the scenes you can take in.

It’s only when you delve into history like this that you realise what a shame it is that a company like Moto Morini is closing. This photo of the Morini Deltabox (which looks like it’s scanned from a magazine, but we can’t be sure) from Motoblog.it, shows the V-Twin engine which was designed by Italy’s famous motorcycle engineer, Franco Lambertini.

While other Italian motorcycle companies are also credited with the innovation and use of the V-Twin engine, it is generally considered that Lambertini is the father of the design. During his career, he worked at Moto Morini, and when the company was under Cagiva ownership it is said the new owners actually put aside his original drawing for a v-twin.

Lambertini then moved on to Piaggio Group for a while, before going back to Morini and working on projects for Benelli and other development of new Morini models. Curiously, Lambertini has a background in automobiles and first worked for Ferrari which makes quite a list of Italian industrial design in general. See more on Lambertini in an interview with the Morini Club.

We had to share this lovely pic of a Triumph Street Triple R parked at the top of the Furka Pass in Switzerland after a motorcycle tour through the area. The pass has an elevation of 2,436 metres and is part of a three-pass trip that travellers often take. Apparently a steam train runs the pass and it was also used as a location in the James Bond film Goldfinger, but otherwise seeing this photo, we think it’s a great place for a spot of summer motorcycling.
