2011 Husqvarna range

2011 Husqvarna range

Husqvarna took to the 2010 EICMA show with some impressive equipment and we’re not just talking the unusual Husqvarna Mille 3 concept. While we’re not sure what they’re going to do with that model, the big news for 2011 is the Husqvarna SMR449 and SMR511 supermotard models.

Both have been developed off a mix of the enduro and motocross platforms and push the limit in terms of big, powerful supermotard models. The SM range has seen some improvements to the fuel injection system for the new year, while it seems Husqvarna is particularly taken with the SMR630 model in what they call “a racing spirit in a ’street’ bike” and an “Urban Cross” model.

Apart from the technology, Husqvarna’s work on the design has paid off and we have some good looking models on our hands. The SMR630 in particular has all-Italian design and styling in a totally reworked bike. It’s definitely a dirt bike gone city cool and now includes more comfort features like double padding on the seat.

Ossa in 2011 trial championships with TR280i

posted by Alison in: Offroad Trial

Ossa Eicma 2009

The revival of the Ossa Spanish offroad bike brand will see the new Ossa TR280i compete in next year’s World Trial Championship after success at the trial nations event in Polond last weekend. Spain won for the seventh year in a row and the new Ossa trial team was presented at the event. The TR280i is a niche product but like all niche products, it has amazing capabilities and a loyal following. Deliveries of the first models will start in October this year.

The new Ossa trial bike showed off its prowess at the nations event with Marc Colomer, tester and developer, taking the reins of what should be the market’s lightest trial bike around. Ossa management had a meeting with FIM to present its team and its bike, and the upshot is we’ll be seeing a new competitor racing. Ossa will most likely have to make a few changes to its TR280i as its lighter than what regulations allow, but surely it’s easier to make a bike heavier than to get its weight down. Expect to see some excitement next year.

X-Fighters Red Bull Cairo - Adam Jones Flies to Victory (w/video)

posted by Toni M. in: Offroad Trial Video

Under the stars of the Egyptian night with a spectacular backdrop of the Great Sphinx of the Giza plateau it was Adam Jones who emerged victorious against the best freestyle motocross riders from Europe, Asia, America and Australia in the Cairo round of the Red Bull 2010 X-Fighters World Tour.

The riders sailed 15 metres high and 30 metres in length but it was Jones who destroyed his 11 opponents’ dreams of victory by progressing all the way to the Final, where he tricked and flipped his way past the winner of the season opener in Mexico City, the Norwegian Andrè Villa, to win the event.

“This really is a dream come true for me. The conditions in Cairo weren’t easy, but my final run was perfect, and that meant the judges were then on my side,” grinned the 26-year-old.

The second round of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour takes place today in Giza, at the foot of the Great Sphinx. 12 riders will take part, with six qualifying from the Tour. After injuries to Dany Torres and Mat Rebeaud, only four of them will take part: Nate Adams (USA and current champion), Robbie Maddison (AUS), Eigo Sato (JPN) and Levi Sherwood (NZL). Eight other riders will take part and we’ll have more pics after today. In the meantime enjoy these images and the video from the ‘warm-up’ with an impressive jump in the sunset from Robbie Maddison.

KTM Freeride more pics

Here are more pics of the KTM Freeride electric urban trial bikes, and a very funky video after the jump to prove just where this bike is headed. If you had any doubts on the niche market KTM is creating for yourself, you’ve got to check out the Freeride website, and gallery pics. While KTM is, and always has been, committed to offroad motorcycles and sport, it says of its new Freeride bikes:

Freeride also stands for the end of motorcycles fleeing the city and the accepted return of sporting motorcycle events in urban areas.

What’s more the zero emissions factor is essential in this new bike. KTM says:

In order to give the sport more room and create new possibilities, there is no better solution than the zero emission motorcycle from KTM…. This is a motorcycle that is extremely light, sporty and powerful, and with its electric motor, it is now also an emission- and noise free form of mobility.

With this development it is even possible to bring offroad sport very close to densely populated areas, to establish new parks and riding opportunities in areas where until now it has been unthinkable. And when the use of this sports machine moves closer to home, this can also be through the activities of a new target group.

KTM Freeride electric bike price and details

posted by Alison in: Enduro Trial Ktm

KTM Freeride electric official pics

After being leaked earlier this week, KTM has released details of its electric Freeride bike, although without any fanfare, which we can only put down to the sensible style of the Dutch company. The KTM Freeride models are two supermotard and cross/enduro bikes which produce 30 hp and 43 Nm off 2.5 kW lithium ion batteries.

Battery recharge time is 1.5 hrs and the bike weighs 90 kg. Other features include 21-inch trial wheels, Drive by Wire technology, clutch-less transmission and chain and a hand operated hydraulic brake system with energy recuperation. The Freeride bikes should be on sale by spring 2011 at a price of less than 10,000 euros.

While we might not be seeing a revolution as such in electric motorcycles, KTM is doing its best to create its own niche of urban freestyle electric bikes. It will be very interesting to see how the market reacts to this, and where/how the KTM Freeride bikes will be used. Keep your eyes open because this could get to be fun… Press release from HFL after the jump.
