Moto Guzzi V7 Classic in Rome

The Moto Guzzi V7 Classic is the official bike for the 16th Rome marathon, and will be cruising the streets of the eternal city on March 21st. It’s seem that Moto Guzzi is increasingly making its way from Mandello to Rome, after Tor Sagen took the Moto Guzzi Griso 8V on a test ride through Rome.

Moto Guzzi will have a special stand at the marathon, where you can buy Moto Guzzi accessories at discounted prices. There will also be a Moto Guzzi Fun Run with two bikes making way through the streets of Rome for the runners behind. See the Guzzi V7 classic in Rome in this photo gallery.

Here are more pics of the Mustang bike revival from the guys at California Scooter Company, where you can get a closer look at the Classic, Greaser and Baby Doll models. I like the Classic model but there’s no way you’d catch me on the Babydoll one. You can also get custom built models. See the California Scooter Company site for more details.

Mustang motorcycles are back: retro bikes revived

posted by Alison in: Custom/cruiser Vintage

Mustang Motorcycle Revival

Mustang motorcycles are being revived by the California Scooter Company who has built a 149cc, four-stroke engine. The original Mustang bikes were built from 1947 to 1965 and were generally equipped with a 320cc single cylinder motor, or a 122cc Villier’s two-stroke, and 3-speed Burman transmission.

The company plans to build three models: the Classic, Greaser and Babydoll. Other custom-built bikes will also be available and the company should be keeping costs to about $4,995 US. If you want to cruise California on a very nice retro bike, these guys could have the answer.

GIMA 125 French motorcycle renaissance: country lane motorcycling is back

posted by Alison in: Vintage

GIMA 125 vintage French motorcycles

An exact replica of a 1950’s French motorcycle is born again in the form of the GIMA 125 revival. GIMA (Groupement Industriel Métallurgique l’Automobile) was a French motorcycle manufacturer specialising in a 125 cc bike. While nothing speedy or fancy by today’s standards, it’s a beautiful vehicle and had its moment of fame when it won the 1949 Bold D’Or in the 125 category.

The GIMA 125 has been built again, entirely in France, and based on the 1946 model with a few exceptions for the modern world. It has a 125 cc, four-stroke engine, and is an extremely easygoing bike that you’ll want as a romantic run-about for the French countryside.

The GIMA 125 has a top speed of just 80-90 km, and weighs 105 kg. It’s fuel efficiency is incredible, though, apparently consuming just 2.5 litres per 100 km, meaning you can go a long way on the 14-litre tank. It’s certainly a beautiful looking bike and if you’re in the market for one, and happen to appreciate a French-built vehicle, it costs about 4,990 euros. For more details, see the Moto GIMA site.

Vintage Yamaha brochures 1969 to 1976

Vintage Yamaha brochures

These vintage Yamaha catalogues show the Yamaha XS1 650 presented at the Tokyo show back in 1969, the Yamaha XS 650 F from 1970-1971, and the Yamaha XS 650 C from 1976. They were the first big cylinder Yamaha four-strokes, with the XS1 650 originally modelled on the world famous Triumph Bonneville. Bikes have come a long way since then, but motorcycle lifestyle advertising is still quite similar, when you think about it…

Suzuki Katana retro cool makeover

posted by Alison in: Naked Suzuki Vintage Wallpapers

Suzuki Katana makeover

This beautiful Suzuki Katana makeover has been produced by Steve, who has done an exceptional job with preserving what is still a classic, 80’s retro bike. This new Katana 1100 has a Wiseco piston kit, gas flowed head, EFE 1100 cams with adjustable cam sprockets and Keihin 37mm carburetors.

Other technical modifications include titanium bolts on the engine and a Racefit custom-built titanium exhaust system. Steve has also added K4 GSX-R750 front fork, rear Ohlins shock absorbers, and the brakes are Brembo with a mix of components from the Yamaha R1 and Suzuki TL1000. The Katana also has a Suzuki Bandit 1200 swing arm and 17-inch Dymag alloy wheels.

That’s a very cool kit, and aesthetically-speaking, it all works. Steve says the whole lot, including the original bike, cost about 6,000 pounds, with most parts coming from mates or online auction sites. Meaning, choose your friends wisely….?

Your pics: 1984 Honda Magna takes on Bonneville

posted by Alison in: Honda Vintage Photo of the Day

1984 Honda Magna at Bonneville 2009

This fantastic photo comes to us from Gary, who spent a labour-intensive couple of years restoring this lovely 1984 Honda Magna. What’s more, rather than just riding around the neighbourhood feeling pleased with himself, Gary took it to Bonneville to really test her out. He says:

In 2005 I got this 1984 Honda V30 Magna in non-running condition for $400 (US) including a trailer to haul it on. I restored it myself and this past October, took it to the SCTA World Finals at the Bonneville Salt Flats International Speedway near Wendover, UT, to see how well I did on the work.

Without re-jetting the caburetors to compensate for the high altitude (5,100 ft.), or any engine modifications for performance, the 25 year old 500 cc back yard classic went through the three mile timing trap at 104.536 MPH.

Nice work, thanks for the photo Gary! Send your funny, bizarre or surprising pics to us and we’ll post them, with your name. We’d love to share what you guys find in the world of motorcycling! Send to: pics@twowheelsblog.com.

Restored 1986 Yamaha FZ 750

This pic of the day shows a restored 1986 Yamaha FZ 750. The photo comes from Italian fan Fabiano, who finally managed to purchase an FZ 750 after falling in love with it at age 11 when watching the film “Troppo Forte”, or “Too Fast”. It took him seven months to fully restore it, and he now rides it around the lovely roads of Lake Como, in Italy’s north.
