After collecting zero points at Catalunya following the controversial collision with Marc Marquez, Pol Espargaro arrived at Silverstone all fired up and after dominating all three practice sessions, he also took his maiden pole position during today’s Moto2s qualifying at Silverstone - and making it three Spaniards in pole position in the three different categories, Maverick Vinales in Moto3, Alvaro Bautista in MotoGP and Espargaro.
The Pons rider laid down a best lap of 2’08″011 with eight minutes left in the session which remained virtually untouchable by the rest of the field, only Andrea Iannone came close in his last flying lap which put him in second and a little less than four tenths adrift and knocking Scott Redding into third.
Starting on the second row will be another Brit, Bradley Smith in fourth with Tech 3 Mistral 610 ahead of Marc Marquez who seems to be sufffering after his big crash during this morning’s FP3. Claudio Corti took 6th - he took the pole in 2010, while championship leader Thomas Luthi will start be starting in seventh after a crash on his last lap kept him from improving and he was ahead of Johann Zarco, Alex De Angelis 9th and Simone Corsi closed out the top ten.
Moto2s qualifying session also saw crashes by Tito Rabat, Max Neukirchner, Julian Simon and Takaaki Nakagami.
