The World Superbike riders stayed on a full extra day at Aragon to test the new Pirelli 17″ tires and rims that will be debuting next season (this will be the first and only collective test). Tom Sykes was the fastest rider of the day posting a 1’57.254 lap in the afternoon session, while Marco Melandri was fastest in the morning with a 1.57.313 (Melandri posted a 1.58.251 during race 1 on Sunday).
Italia Goldbet BMW ’s Ayrton Badovini was third fastest and more than three tenths of second ahead of Aprilia factory duo Eugene Laverty and Max Biaggi, race 1 winner. Leon Haslam was again slower than his team mate taking the sixth spot with Leon Camier and Jonathan Rea in 7th and 8th respectively and separated by a mere 0.022s. Althea’s Davide Giugliano and Carlos Checa took 10th and 11th, but were more than one second slower than Sykes.
Effenbert Liberty team decided to skip the test as did the Ducati Red Devils team, while Grillini Progea called in Supersport rider Imre Toth to give Norino Brignola a hand.
