The much-awaited new BMW F 800 R naked has finally been revealed in a presentation at the Eicma show. The new BMW has plenty of technology and so-called “ride appeal” that it should find a happy niche for itself in the market.
The engine is a twin-cylinder 800cc from the F series, capable of 87hp at 8,000 rpm. For riders new to the motorcycling world, a 34hp version is also in the works. Fuel injection is controlled by an evolved system of electronic ingnition. The motorcycle is Euro 3 approved, with accleration to 100km/hr in only 3.9 seconds and maximum speed of 200km/hr.
The F 800 R is highly fuel efficient with an average of 3.6 litres consumed over 100km at a constant speed of 90km/hr, and 4.8 litres if travelling at 120km/hr. Tank capacity holds 16 litres guaranteeing plenty of distance, and the dry weight is 177kg.
The chassis is a steel two section frame with load bearing engine, 43mm telescopic fork, and rear traditional swing arm. The tyres are 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 180/70 ZR 17 at the rear. The front double disc brake measures 320mm, while the rear is a 265mm single disc. ABS is an optional.
