The higher temperatures at Sachsenring circuit caused some tire troubles for the Moto2 riders. Marc Marquez was leading the session until the final minutes when he crashed out in a spectacular, but almost harmless crash (he was seen rubbing his hands -probably a burn rash from sliding out) heading into the famed Waterfall that prevented him from confirming his lap times.
With Marquez out, Pol Espargaro posted the quickest time in his last flying lap and finished in 1’25″179, a mere 0.048s faster than the current standings leader.
Rivals Andrea Iannone and Thomas Luthi also crashed, which left the door open to Bradley Smith to take third ahead of Mika Kallio, Alex De Angelis (in his second weekend with the FTR chassis), and banged up Iannone and Luthi.
Dominque Aegerter was seventh ahead of Yuki Takahashi who finally made it into the top ten for the first time this season and Simone Corsi who completed the top ten.
Alessandro Andreozzi who is replacing Mike Di Meglio in the Speed Master team after the French rider ran out of cash was 33rd,while wild card Kevin Wahr on Kiefer Racing’s IAMT RP2 was 31st and 18-year old Markus Reiterberger who is replacing injured Alex Lundh this weekend was 28th.
