Yamaha X-City 250 2009

The Yamaha X-City 250 scooter, recently presented at the Eicma show, has some updates in a few details and in the colour range.

Novelties include the new rear storage and front, height adjustable windshield. The engine is a 250cc four-stroke with electronic ignition and liquid cooled. It should give good performance, but include the essential environmental characteristics required these days.

Front and rear disc brakes measure 270 and 240mm respectively. The instrumentation has an alloy profile and read lighting. Colour range includes Competition White, Stonehenge Grey, Midnight Black and Fine Silver.

I have just gone into a Yamaha showroom in London to have a closer look at the X City 250, particularly to examine the underseat storage. I was amazed to see that, although Yamaha ads claim it can take one ‘full crash helmet’, there was no way my medium-size standard full face crash helmet would fit - the seat stopped several inches short of closing, no matter what way I lay the helmet, even with the earnest help of the sales assistant! Evidently the helmet shown in the seat in the ad must be a half-face helmet - so quite a disappointing lack of useful storage space. Also there is no immobiliser fitted to the bike as standard.
