Some lucky journalists were invited by Ducati to ride the new Ducati 1198S, Ducati’s new Superbike after the 1098 model. Trevor Franklin from MCN was present at the launch at the Circuito de Algarve near Portimao in Portugal.

The 1198 is a look alike bike to the 1098 but what’s really new is the traction control, in short DTC. The system works first by retarding the ignition and secondly by cutting the fuel injection by major wheel spin. New on this model is also the lighter crank cases which save 3kg on the old model.

MCN has said: “The handling is much the same as the 1098 that the new bikes replace. It’s agile and easy to push through fast corners. Ducati has once again made it’s legendary V-twin superbikes perform like no other V-twin.” The full test will be written in the 26 November magazine.
