WSBK Brno: Davide Guigliano takes the lead in QP1

Davide Giugliano is on a roll at Brno, the Althea Ducati rider not only topped the timesheets in this morning’s opening free practice, he also posted the fastest time in the first qualifying practice - that was also hampered by on and off drizzling rain- with a best lap of 1.59.452, but he was also the third slowest rider (279km/h) through the speed trap.
Marco Melandri was the second quickest rider and he was a little less than a tenth adrift. The BMW factory team was to debut a special Batman livery this weekend, but following the Colorado shooting that left at least 12 dead and 50 injured during the Batman film Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros has decided to cancel the special paint job. Eugene Laverty took third and finally seems at ease on the Aprilia after his breakthrough in race 2 at Aragon.
Tom Sykes was fourth and the last rider to break the 2 minute mark and followed by Ducati riders Carlos Checa and Jakub Smrz. BMW Italia’s Ayrton Badovini and Michel Fabrizio continued to play tag as they were 7th and 8th respectively, while Chaz Davies moved up the charts to take 9th while Leon Haslam closed out the top ten. Loris Baz fell back to 11th but he was still less than a second from Giugliano.
