Yamaha team manager Daniele Romagnoli has decided that the wall that divides the Yamaha factory team is a good idea and that even Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo will benefit from it.
The partition was placed in 2008 when Valentino Rossi switched over to Bridgestone tires while team mate Lorenzo was on Michelins and both tire manufacturers requested it to protect intellectual property and the swapping of key information.
With the introduction of the single tyre rule and with the entire grid will be running Bridgestone tires, and the wall is no longer necessity and should come down, however reigning World Champion Valentino Rossi has convinced the head honchos in Yamaha that the wall should stay up.
When Jorge Lorenzo partecipated in the Monza Rally Show he openly declared that he didn’t like the idea that the wall would remain standing also in 2009.
“It’s Vale’s idea, not mine. Now that we have the same Bridgestone tires there’s no need to keep it, there are no secrets to keep. We’re a team. This is really a weakness on Rossi’s part, he’s won eight championships, six in the top class, I haven’t won any. I don’t understand him. said Lorenzo.
In Yamaha there are two riders and both want to win the championship, the wall makes for a better harmony and if it worked this year, why change? “ “Let’s do it this way, we’ll put the wall up only on my side and if wants to he can take down his.” Said Rossi.
Romagnoli recently told MCN: “Jorge doesn’t like so much that the wall will stay. But I have tried to explain to him that the wall is something we need. It is something that can help him because it saves him from concentrating too much on Valentino. He can focus on himself.
“The wall will help him because he has his own team working just for him. So everybody surrounding him is working just for him and 100 per cent for him. When two riders are on the same team, every rider watches the other side.
“This happens for sure. After a race too the other side might be the winner and you might be tenth. Then you don’t have to see the celebrations.”
According to statements made by Lorenzo, Edwards and Toseland after last November’s Jerez test they have had access to all of Rossi’s data.
So what do you think, does the wall really help a riders concentration and peace of mind or should it come tumbling down?
