Even the WSBK Championship like MotoGP is trying to save pennies in the global economic crisis and are thinking of reducing practice time and limiting the number of engines used in each race weekend.
The Superbike Commission composed of Paolo Falmmini, Claude Denis and Paolo Bardi met March 1st at Phillip Island and have decided that in the next meetings they will discuss further cost saving measures.
At the moment the only rule change to come into effect from March 31, 2009 are practice restrictions and will affect all three championships: Superbike, Supersport and Superstock.
Technical and sporting checks will take place on Friday morning, instead of Thursday, meaning no track running will take place until afternoon.
Removing Friday morning practice will save fuel, tires and eventual crash damages.
The revised schedule is as follows:
Friday:
08.30-10.00 Superstock Technical / sporting checks
10.00-12.00 Superbike & Supersport Technical / sporting checks
13.00-13.45 (45 mins) Superstock Free practice
14.00-15.00 (60 mins) Superbike Free practice
15.15-16.00 (45 mins) Supersport Free practice
16.15-17.15 (60 mins) Superbike Qualifying practice
