About ten days ago the WSBK promoters and the FIM announced that from the Valencia round in April, they would be moving Friday morning practice to 2 o’clock in the afternoon in an apparent cost saving effort. This measure was decided during the Phillip Island weekend when several teams requested that all Friday practices be cancelled, the Superbike Commission and FIM compromised by cancelling only Friday’morning practice and moving all practices to the afternoon.
However an organization problem was presented during this weekend in Qatar when Pirelli tire manufacterer informed the organizers that with practices so close together they would not be able supply and mount more that four tires per rider, so admist general embarrassment the SBK had to reorganize the schedule again, with the first free practice starting at 12:45 and finishing with the first qualifying session that will be begin at 16:15.
Another problem has also come up and regards the SuperSport Championship. Several of the teams are having economic troubles and have asked the Flammini Brothers to cancel the South Africa and USA rounds for them, but the promoters have said no, replying that it was the SuperSport teams that requested a matching SBK and SS calendar and now they cannont turn back and the two races are definitely confirmed, however it is very possible that if the economic crisis continues the SuperSport championship will race only in Europe in 2010.
