The Phillip Island circuit has decided to name turn 3 after the reigning World Champion and soon-to-be retiring Casey Stoner. Stoner’s name will now appear along side two other great Australian GP champions that have also been honoured with this tribute, Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan.

A special ceremony will take place on the eve of this weekend’s Australian GP, where Stoner will try to take his sixth consecutive win at the Island (four years with Ducati and one year with Repsol Honda) to make a fitting farewell to racing at his home circuit.

Last season Stoner celebrated his 26th birthday (October 16th), the race victory and tied up the 2011 World championship title all at Phillip Island.

Personally we’d also like to see World Superbike champions and legends Troy Bayliss and Troy Corser also get their tribute from the circuit.
