Today’s MotoGP free practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was carried out under rain showers which saw Dani Pedrosa top the chart with a best time of 1.51.507, followed Ducati’s Nicky Hayden just 0.155s off of Pedrosa’s time. Pedrosa time was slower that 125cc rider Nico Terol who did 1.50.603 on a dry track.

Valentino Rossi sat out the first twenty minutes of session hoping the rain would let up, finally headed out on the rain soaken track and in the final minutes of the session took third at 0.307s from the Repsol Honda rider.

Newly re-signed Yamaha rider was Jorge Lorenzo was 4th and fifth went to Alex DeAngelis who still cannot find a MotoGP seat for next season and is now considering a Moto2 ride.

James Toseland set his best lap time early in the hour finished sixth and Loris Capirossi, another rider who announced yesterday that he’ll be with Suzuki in 2010 took seventh.

Colin Edwards was eighth and Andrea Dovizioso was ninth on the second Repsol Honda, while Marco Melandri rounded out the top ten.

Mika Kallio on his second round with the factory Ducati rider took eleventh, while Chris Vermeulen who will be leaving Suzuki at the end of the season to make place for Alvaro Bautista was twelfth.

Randy de Puniet, who is still nursing a broken ankle picked up in a motocross training accident was 13th while Toni Elias, another rider who will be leaving Gresini at the end of season was 14th.

Aleix Espargaro, making his MotoGP debut on Kallio’s Pramac Ducati Desmosedici was 15th ahead of both Gabor Talmacsi and Niccolo Canepa.
