After our Moto Morini live pics from EICMA, we promised a closer look at the new Granferro 1200 model. The Granferro is designed to be a fun bike to ride; slim, aggressive and powerful, it’s what you want on a road with plenty of corners to play with. It’s equipped with a twin-cylinder Bialbero Corsa Corta engine at 1187 cc, and has 125 hp. We could probably take Morini’s word for it, that this is a fun bike to ride, but seeing the pictures, we’re just itching to have a go.

Other Granferro features include a twin-exhaust, 17-inch light alloy wheels, monobloc calliper brakes, fully adjustable fork and suspension, and carbon fibre structure. The bike is designed by Rodolfo Frascoli from Marabese Design (responsible for many modern Morini bikes), and has a look with plenty of grunt, and a trellis frame. The front has double headlamps and a beak, and the central and rear fairing of the bike is made from carbon fibre.

The fuel tank is based on that of the Granpasso and has a larger capacity than a standard motard tank, with about 27-litres for longer range riding. The engine produces 126.5 hp at 8,500 rpm, and the torque is 11.4 Kgm (110 Nm) at 7,000 rpm. It has four-valves, double overhead cam technology, and a 107 mm piston. A six speed gearbox is included, with a radial pump clutch and Magneti Marelli fuel injection system.

The electronic mapping and fuel system of the bike has been redesigned so that the Granferro has smooth gear transition and better handling, while still complying with Euro 3 emissions laws. The chassis includes a front Marzocchi Magnum upside-down fork measuring 50 mm in diameter, while the rear has a double swing arm from the Granpasso with hydraulic system to reduce weight and increase rigidity. A lateral single shock Ohlins is included, which is completely adjustable.

The Brembo brakes include a double front disc brake at 320 mm with monobloc callipers and four pistons, and the rear single disc measures 255 mm with floating callipers and two pistons. The instrument panel is entirely digital, with handle bar commands, and it features maintenance intervals and gear indicator. Currently the colour available is white with carbon look on a yello frame, while another colour will be released in the future.
