Jorge Lorenzo said yesterday that he was finally riding pain free and that he already had a good pace;and with some small modifications he could even be even better and in this morning’s free practice 2 at Jerez went out and proved it by taking the lead twenty minutes into the session and in the final minutes hit the top of the charts with hot lap of 1’39”089 and 0.460s ahead of the rest of the field.
Dani Pedrosa continues to improve his pace and ended up second followed by Casey Stoner who was down in third, and 0.630s from Lorenzo.
Andrea Dovizioso made a big jump forwards from yesterday’s 12th place in the first free practice and finished fourth. Valentino Rossi took fifth, still chasing rear grip and coping with his injured shoulder and seems resigned that he’s not going to be fighting for the win tomorrow.
As expected, Ben Spies sliced off a big 1.2 seconds from yesterday to take sixth and was 0.923s from Stoner, but only 0.030s from Rossi.
Randy de Puniet was another rider who jumped up the charts this morning taking seventh after yesterday’s 14th spot, despite a crash.
Nicky Hayen also had a big crash at turn 7, and came away with a slight limp but that didn’t stop him from taking 8th. Marco Melandri continued his trend, finding his Honda more rideable and finished 9th. Closing out the top ten was Colin Edwards.
