Round two of the Moto2 class gave up another exciting race thriller that was also red flagged, with Gresini rider Toni Elias taking a highly fought and spectacular win in Jerez.

The race was cut to only 17 laps instead of 26, when 9 riders fell on the oil spilled from Shoya Tomizawa’s Suter chassis bike. Simone Corsi who came up from 10th on the grid on the opening lap and put in a pass on Shoya Tomizawa taking them both down and with riders behind them sliding on the oil causing a massive rider pile-up.

The re-start saw no less than five riders taking turns to lead, with Kenny Noyes, Toni Elías, Shoya Tomizawa and then Thomas Lüthi jockying for first place. With six laps to go there were up to nine riders with a chance of taking the win with Simone Corsi and Sergio Gadea catching up to the group.

With less than half a second separating Elías, Tomizawa, Lüthi and Takahashi went into the last lap where Elias took the lead from Tomizawa at the second corner and despite running wide at the Dry Sack, kept his bike under control and rushed to the finish line ahead of the Japanese rider by just 0.190s and third went to Thomas Luthi who was just 0.071 from Tomizawa.
