With the FIFA World Cup championship that kicks off next month in South Africa, Leon Haslam has decided to support the English team with a new helmet design that he’ll be wearing at this weekend’s Superbike round at Kyalami.
Haslam’s Arai helmet see’s the design of the English nation’s three lions crest – first used in the 1100s by King Henry II and synonymous with King Richard I “The Lionheart” in the late 1100s. The St George’s Cross is featured on the rear of the helmet, again a symbol of England and dating back to the Crusades of the 1100s and 1200s, and is captured in the shape of a lion. Haslam’s “91” logo is present and each side of the helmet has a large, golden lion’s head.
The rear of the helmet also features the shape of the FIFA World Cup Trophy – that replaced the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1974 – and is painted in the colours of the South African flag and the base of the helmet is a reminder of England’s one and only success in the World Cup with the names of the victorious 1966 team flowing around the helmet.
“I love my football and really wanted to do something to recognise and support England, especially with us having this World Superbike round in South Africa right now, just before the World Cup all gets under way,” said Haslam. “We wanted to capture and appreciate everything surrounding England, the World Cup and also recognise the fantastic achievement of beating Germany 4-2 in the Final at Wembley 44 years ago. I’ll wear the helmet for Sunday’s races and maybe some races after that – I suppose a lot depends on how far England progress in the tournament!”
Arai will be producing only 250 units of this limited edition of the “Haslam England World Cup” helmet on its Chaser model and each replica will come with a numbered certificate signed by Leon Haslam and presented personally to each customer during the NEC Motorcycle Show next November.
Each sale will be accompanied by a complimentary admission pass to the Motorcycle Show and the helmet is available in all sizes, from XXS to XXL, and priced at £399.99.
