This morning’s MotoGP free practice at Bugatti track at Le Mans saw Ducati’s Casey Stoner on top of the timesheets for most of the hour long session with the Ducatista duelling against an ultra fast Jorge Lorenzo who was second and just 15 thousandths of second from the Australian, with both riders bettering their lap times from yesterday’s practice, despite tricky track conditions early in the session that saw three riders go down.
Mika Kallio, Ben Spies and an already injured Alvaro Bautista hit the ground in the opening five minutes. All three riders had big highsides due to the cooler track temperatures. Spies who was taken to the Clinica Mobile on a stretcher with a suspected broken foot, but fortunately the Texan ended up with some big bruising to his left foot. Bautista who was riding with his collarbone fracture seemed better off than Spies, but the Spaniard may not ride in tomorrow’s race and could be subsituted by Suzuki’s test rider Nobuatsu Aoki.
Valentino Rossi took third separated by 0.242s from the top but didn’t better his lap times and closely followed by Dani Pedrosa who slowly is getting closer to his rivals. Andrea Dovizioso was fifth but the big surprise was Aleix Espargaro on the Pramac Ducati who took sixth ahead of Nicky Hayden on the factory Ducati.
The eighth spot went to Randy de Puniet who made a big jump forward from yesterday and he was followed by Colin Edwards and Loris Capirossi, who rounded out the top ten.
Marco Simoncelli finished in 12th despite a crash in the last 10 minutes of the session.
