Last year we reported that FIM’s Race Director Paul Butler had visited the Imola race circuit because it seemed that Dorna was interested in bringing another MotoGP race to Italy and now Dorna is taking one step further, because Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi and Franco Uncini (Dorna’s Safety Director) will be at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola on Tuesday, June 1st.

Rossi and Capirossi, who are the founding members of riders safety commission will do several laps of the re-moderned circuit on street bikes for a first evaluation of the circuit and to to see if it’s now suitable to host a MotoGP round, because the last time that the premier class ran at Imola was in 1999 when the 500cc’s were still around and the circuit lay-out was different.

Also present will be Dr. Claudio Costa who is now part of the Imola staff as medical co-ordinator and many of you may not know that Costa’s father, Francesco (Checco) designed and created the Imola circuit, and nick named the legendary Italian track the “Small Nurburgring.”
