Yesterday’s duel between Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo continued in this morning’s MotoGP free practice at Assens’s TT Circuit Van Drenthe, however the Fiat Yamaha rider came out on top again, doing a series of record laps and the only rider to break under the 1.35 mark with a best lap of 1.34″769.

Casey Stoner’s gap from Lorenzo was 0.319s, but the Ducati rider seemed confident on his race pace, while Nicky Hayden had mixed fortunes, his engine started blowing smoke and he also crashed at the Duikersloot, but fortunately is uninjured and finished in fifth.

As usual Dani Pedrosa moved up the charts in the second session to take third, closely followed by Ben Spies in fourth.
Randy de Puniet made a jump forward to finish sixth with his private Honda. The Frenchman finished ahead of Andrea Dovizioso on his factory Honda.

Aleix Espargaro continues in good form taking the eighth spot heading into this afternoon’s qualifying session. Marco Simoncelli took ninth, while Marco Melandri ran straight on at the modified Ruskenhoek turn suffering a massive highside when he rejoined the track.

The Italian has been ruled out of this weekend’s race and may be also ruled out of the upcoming Barcelona round, after being diagnosed with a dislocation of his left shoulder.

Melandri is the third rider, after Valentino Rossi and Hiroshi Aoyama to have suffered devasting crashes in morning practices which now leaves us with a grid of 14 full time riders and 1 test rider.
