As we had already anticipated we’ve tried out the new Piaggio Carnaby and Beverly Tourer 2008 scooters. While waiting for test results, we’ll give you an idea of the specifications and some shots of the new vehicles. The Piaggio Carnaby 125 and 200 are available in the “model year” 2008 version, with a new colour design and some design novelties.

The Carnaby is a scooter with softer and more modern lines. The flat platform is convenient for city use while the headlights are on the more protective front piece. The 2008 version has a wider seat in new, more comfortable material. The seat is 790mm from the ground and with the wider handles is more manoeuvrable.

The instrument panel has been reviewed and the dash surrounding is now the same colour as the bodywork. 2008 sees renewed colours with four elegant additions: metallic Grafite Black, Pulsar Grey, Andromeda Blue with a pastel Naiade Ivory.

Two Piaggio motors are available in the 200 and 125cc Leader. They are latest generation engines characterised by the Euro3’s recent anti-pollution developments. The two engines have a common layout and are four-stroke, four-valve, and liquid cooled. They have great performance with 125cc running at 15 hp (maximum allowed by law in Italy for riders with normal driving licences) and the 200cc has 21 hp of power.

The structure is made up of a steel tube, high-resistance frame, with a fork at 35mm in diameter. The rear works on a double shock absorber and spring system with four adjustable positions. The wheels are 16 inches with wide sections at 110/70 for the front and 130/70 for the rear. The brake system includes two discs at 260mm with floating pads and double pistons.

The under-seat compartment is quite large and can easily hold a jet helmet. In addition you can keep an innovative removable accessory bag in the centre section, made in the same synthetic, water-proof and anti-rip material as the seat and which allows for highly useful extra space.

The wide range of accessories includes a series of functional items: a leg-cover and foldable sheet, coloured saddle with “one-lock” system that can hold an integrated helmet or two jet helmets, anti-scratch and anti-chip 4mm windshield, disc-blocking silent alarm and electronic remote-controlled alarm, and personalised Carnaby scooter cover.

The Carnaby 125 is available at a price of 3150 euro, while the Carnaby 200 is on sale at 3400 euro.
