Dani Pedrosa put everyone in line in today’s spectacular qualifying session at Misano. The Repsol Honda rider laid down a best lap in 1.33.948 with an awesome fourth sector at the ‘Carro’ to take his fourth pole position of the season and leaving Jorge Lorenzo who was three tenths slower in second.
Casey Stoner will be third on tomorrow’s starting grid, despite a front end crash after taking the provvisional pole early in the session.
Valentino Rossi’s wake-up call helmet didn’t work and he’ll be starting in fourth on the second row. The Italian has been insisting on using the hard tire while most of the grid has been using the softer option. Ben Spies took the fifth spot and he just 0.002s from Rossi’s qualifying lap.
Randy de Puniet is slowly returning to form after breaking his leg six weeks ago at the Sachsenring with his excellent sixth position. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Colin Edwards qualified in seventh and he was followed by Andrea Dovizioso who won’t be happy with the eighth spot.
San Carlo Honda Gresini team-mates Marco Simoncelli and Marco Melandri completed the top ten. Loris Capirossi in eleventh with Hector Barbera in twelfth after a crash. Hiroshi Aoyama took the thirteenth spot while Nicky Hayden took a big step backwards and could only qualify in a lowly 14th place and was 1.355s off Pedrosa’s best time.
