Today’s MotoGP race at Misano won by Dani Pedrosa was shocked and saddened by the news of the death of Moto2 rider Shoya Tomizawa, with almost no celebrations and podium flags flown at half mast.
Dani Pedrosa won his second to back to back race after Indianapolis and his fourth of the season, dominating and controlling from start to finish.
Jorge Lorenzo took second, unable to keep up with Pedrosa’s impressive pace and after three laps had a one second lead and was able to build that up to five seconds before slowing down and controlling to the finish line.
Third place went to Valentino Rossi who battled first with Casey Stoner and then Andrea Dovizioso. Rossi overtook Stoner on lap eleven and one lap later Dovizioso passed Stoner, who started to fade and would finish fifth and more than 18 seconds from Pedrosa.
Dovizioso tried to stick to Rossi but was unable to match this countryman’s pace in the final laps and had to settle for fourth. Sixth went to Ben Spies ahead of team mate Colin Edwards and behind the Tech3 duo, Alvaro Bautista finished in eighth from his 16th spot on the starting grid, while team mate Loris Capirossi was wiped out by Nicky Hayden at the first chicane. Both riders crashed with Capirossi picking up a hand injury and will have to undergo surgery on a tendon tomorrow.
Hector Barbera pipped ninth from Marco Melandri. Marco Simoncelli crashed out on the fourth lap, while running sixth but was able to rejoin the race and finished last.
