Dani Pedrosa, with a new 2 year contract in his pocket, took a dominating lead in this morning’s 45 minute free practice at the Motorland Aragon circuit, already setting an impressive pace on the new track and stopping the clock at 1′50.506, finishing a big 0.411sec clear of the field and was the only rider to break the 1.51 mark, hitting a stop speed of over 320 km/h.

The GP riders are now running a new schedule with a Friday morning session and a second free practice session later in the afternoon with all sessions reduced from one hour to 45 minutes.

Nicky Hayden took the second spot from Jorge Lorenzo with a closing minute lunge that propelled him ahead of the Fiat Yamaha rider by just 0.011s.

Fourth went to Casey Stoner followed by Marco Simoncelli on the Gresini Honda who was 0.001s faster than Valentino Rossi’s sixth place. The reigning World Champion floundered in the back of the field for most the session and managed to jump forward in the final minutes, but was a massive 1.263s from Pedrosa’s best lap.

Hector Barbera in seventh finished ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, who still waiting to find were he’s heading next season. The Texas duo Colin Edwards and Ben Spies closed out the top ten.

Aleix Espargaro was the only rider to crash during the session. The Spaniard suffered a highside in the first three minutes of the session at turn two, probably due to cold tires and fortunately was uninjured.

Riza Suzuiki’s Loris Capirossi is still recovering from surgery on his finger will be skipping this round.
