Friday free practice for all three GP classes was delayed due to bad weather conditions that hit Australia’s Phillip Island. Cold temperatures, strong winds and heavy rain hit the Island causing standing water in several areas of the track with marshals having to clear the situation up.

When MotoGP action finally got underway it was Jorge Lorenzo, who no longer has to worry about the championship title, was the fastest in the postponed session. Lorenzo laid down a best lap of 1′41″146 that easily put him on the top of the timecharts.

Ducati duo Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden were 2nd and 3rd respectively, followed by the Gresini riders Marco Simoncelli and Marco Melandri, who were the best Honda riders in the session, with their 4th and 5th spots finishing ahead of factory rider Andrea Dovizioso. Dani Pedrosa who is making his return after breaking his collarbone during the Motegi free practice two weeks ago, put in only 7 laps preferring not to take any further risks on the patchy track.

Valentino Rossi was only 7th and a massive 1.480s off his team mate with Colin Edwards, Randy de Puniet and Loris Capirossi completing the top ten.
