This morning’s free practice at Estoril was extended to one hour after having lost yesterday’s morning practice due to bad weather, but FP3 wasn’t much better, because the session was wet.

Jorge Lorenzo, wearing his Astronaut Moon Landing helmet that he used to win last year’s race at Estoril, set the fastest time with 1.48.853, and then had a big highside in the final minutes of the session, but with his Dainese D-Air leathers deploying, managed to walk away with no apparent injuries.

The second spot on the provisional grid before this afternoon’s qualifying session was Valentino Rossi, who was more than half a second adrift from his team mate, while Andrea Dovizioso moved up to third, but was a massive 1.1 seconds from Lorenzo.

Both factory Ducati riders suffered highsides. Casey Stoner in the opening minutes and Nicky Hayden just 10 minutes later. Both riders were able to return to track, with Stoner coming in fourth and Hayden who was seen limping away from his crash, dropping back from yesterday’s 2nd place to 13th

Colin Edwards recovered from his crash yesterday to move up to 5th and was followed by Marco Simoncelli and Aleix Espargaro. Marco Melandri and injured Loris Capirossi closed out the top ten.
