The Biaggi vs Melandri squabble has become a national affair in Italy, just like when the Italian parliment (hey, we’ve got a PM who still in office after making out with underage girls) discussed why Biaggi could no longer race in MotoGP after being dropped like a hot potato from Honda and became a persona non grata in that world.

Max Biaggi’s longtime girlfriend and mother of his two children, Eleonora Pedron sent an open letter to the Gazzetta dello Sport defending her man, after all the highly critical comments that he received about his Donington actions and here’s a translation of what she wrote:

“We can’t condemn a person this way, only because he acted instinctively at a provocation in a delicate moment, when concentration and nerves are particularly tense. Only because he can’t fake it in front of a camera and doesn’t act like a ‘victim’ (unlike many others do …). Max is always himself. Sometimes he doesn’t think before acting and this can lead to unpleasant situations, but at this point we condemn the actions, not the person.”

“In the world of sports it’s easy to lose control and act instinctively. It happens often. But it doesn’t have to become a state affair, and above all we can’t offend his personality and his way of being an athlete who always shown great professionalism. Who loves motorcycle racing because when he goes to the track has only one goal: winning. Sometimes Max makes mistakes.
