The twenty minute MotoGP warm-up practice saw the usual Casey Stoner lead the field with a best lap time of 1’34″221, but it also saw the Australian being baulked by a much slower Randy de Puniet at the Garage Vert corner and then Stoner with his usual good manners punched at the Pramac Ducati rider. Stoner and De Puniet are now under investigation for the incident, and then they talk about aggressiveness …

And if this wasn’t enough Jorge Lorenzo lost the rear of his M1 and crashed out on his first lap, probably caught out by cold tires and the bike went up in flames, while the Spaniard was carted off to the Clinica Mobile because of an injury to right ring finger. Lorenzo was able to return to track for the final minutes of the session and post the 11th spot with his second Yamaha.

The rest of the lap times behind Stoner who was more than five tenths faster than the rest of the field, saw Marco Simoncelli, Nicky Hayden, Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi, all separated by a little more than 2 tenths of second.
