Simoncelli-Pedrosa KO Le Mans 2011 di PlusMoto

This is the incriminating pass that got Marco Simoncelli a ride-through penalty at Le Mans. The Gresini Honda rider was trying to take back the pass on Dani Pedrosa, but went around the outside cutting the Spaniard off who had no where to go and hit Simoncelli’s Honda and then crashed out.

Pedrosa ended up with a broken collarbone as the result of this incident, while Simoncelli talking to Italia 1 said he believes that the penalty was unfair and that it was given to him as a result of all the hoopla following Lorenzo’s constant attacks on him. The Italian also said he doesn’t believe he did anything wrong, and that he actually gave Pedrosa some space with the Spaniard coming in a little too hot on the corner.

Looking at the video with much cooler heads, what do you guys think?

Updated: Dorna is already at work … they really should learn from Infront about making free videos to be embedded available.

I don’t know, but it looks like Simoncelli forced a tough overtake and Pedrosa gone a bit hot and they crashed. But Simoncelli almost had overtaken pedrosa at all.

I wonder if Pedrosa couldn’t try to keep his position, as VR in Jerez in 2005 with Sete? Looks like Pedrosa even doen’t try to take the corner.

It looks like Marco left Dani room to make the corner, Dani doesn’t hit Marco’s bike until after he stand’s up the honda. I think Dani would have made it through the corner if he would have just stayed with it. He panicked when he saw Marco on the outside.

Well… was no need to do something like that at that point of the race. Why? Because Sic was much faster than Pedrosa. But he did. And now?
For me Sic may have some excuse. I’ve access to the motogp.com videos and looks like Pedrosa hit the brakes a little bit sooner, giving Sic the oportunity to go outside. The thing his: Pedrosa had a better line but Sic had a better pace and arrives first to the corner.
I really don’t know… i just know that Lorenzo could ended up Dovizioso race as well and was very lucky. Pedrosa don’t… the fall looks like no big drama but when we see again we notice that he hits a bump with his right shoulder.
I’m too sad for Pedrosa and too happy for Vale.

Great race! It’s just ashame that Lorenzo could keep up with Dovi and Vale. Let’s see if Ducati may overtake the Yamahas momentum!

    Greetings from Portugal!

your video doesn’t show the gap between the two bikes. From the other side, (I saw a video on the BBC) you can see that if Danny had not released his brakes, the crash wouldn’t have happened.

The over take had already happened, and Danny lets the brakes off a little, and the bike rises, it changes direction, and catches the back wheel of Simoncelli’s bike, and Danny goes flying.
The ride through penalty was totally unjustified - it should have been seen for being a racing incident, rather than a deliberate knock.

    Marco Simoncelli’s overtake is super.
Dani thought that he would’t overtake this corner.
In fact, Outside overtake is very rare but speed between two riders is big.
    He is too fast.
Dani panicked when he saw Marco on the outside, then he mistook brake control.
I am sad for Dani’s mistake and injury.

Ride-through penalty to sic is wrong judge!!
    This is no problem.

wow what a strange crash/pass. dani stood the bike up thinking marco would cross and finish the corner but then marco decides to ease up, expecting dani to go up the inside. if marco followed through and not been such a nice guy, dani wouldve run-off without falling.

Dani stood the bike up because he was trying to avoid Marco,, that all..! Dani earned the corner and had the line,, that’s all. How can anyone expect Dani to stop on dime to let Marco though… Please! this one is so completely obvious. It was reckless, dangerous and AVOIDABLE. Marco would have probably got Dani cleanly on the next turn.

The penalty was too soft,, Marco should have been suspended for every race that Dani misses,,, plus one more.

You can watch the video 100 more times, but the fact is that faster1 is right. I had watched these crash videos from front and back angles, and we can clearly see that Danny had a good line and suddenly his bike got straight. This is because Danny had to break to avoid Marcos who was coming too near. Anyone that has ridden a bike knows that when you are in a curve and suddenly you have to break hard, your bike gets up quickly and you have no way other than going straight. Marcos shouldn’t even race anymore. That’s not the first time he put the life of the other pilots in danger.
