Motorcycle Hall of Famer Gary Nixon and racing legend died yesterday at the age of 70 in Baltimore Maryland due to complications from a recent heart attack.
Nixon took back-to-back AMA Grand National titles in ‘67 and ‘68. He was an American pioneer on the international racing scene as well, competing in the Formula 750 championship, where he was denied the 1976 championship due to a point deduction and the ensuing politics.
Inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2003 (bio here) and was a regular presence in the AMA paddock and was still racing in the MotoST class just a few years ago until he was forced to stop due to fading eyesight.
