This morning’s free practice at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain was under very sunny skies and rising temperatures and as usual Casey Stoner was fastest out of the garages setting the fastest lap almost immediately, but it was was his Repsol Honda team mate Dani Pedrosa who topped the timesheets with a flying lap at the end of session with a best time of 1.50.281 and shaving off a little more than 2 tenths for last year’s FP1, which he also lead.

Jorge Lorenzo took second and was 0.4 from Pedrosa, while Casey Stoner ended up in third and not very happy with his last set-up. Following the three ‘aliens’ were Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso.

All eyes however were on Valentino Rossi’s Ducati GP11.2 (we’re calling it that because it has an aluminum chassis). Rossi started the session on his GP11.1 (at 9th and +1.5s) only to change to the debuting chassis at the half way mark, but his first run with the ‘Evo’ bike destroyed the soft rear tire. The Italian ended up in 8th with the GP11.2 and slower than Randy De Puniet (6th with GP11 satellite bike) and team mate Nicky Hayden 7th with the GP11.1.

Colin Edwards and Hiroshi Aoyama closed out the top ten. Ben Spies was only 11th after running as high as third and ended up 1.630s from Dani Pedrosa.
