BSB Superbike veteran Michael Rutter took his record breaking seventh win in the 45th Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix to become the most successful rider in the history of the race.

Rutter aboard the Riders Ducati won by a margin of 4.772 ahead of team-mate Martin Jessop who was second, while returnee to racing after his long recovery from multiple leg injuries following his horrific accident during the 2010 BSB Supersport race at Silverstone, was Swan Yamaha’s Ian Hutchinson who took the third spot on the podium in a race that had to be rescheduled due to weather conditions.

Rutter had taken a dominant pole position, but it was Hutchinson who got the hole shot trailed by Rutter, Roadhouse SMT Honda’s John McGuinness with Jessopp right behind.

A three way battle broke out for second while Hutchinson continued his lead and by the end of lap 2, McGuinness was fourth as Rutter and his team mate tussled, with Rutter getting the better of Jessop. Setting his sights on Hutchinson, the Ducati man caught him on lap four and immediately began to pull away while Jessopp also got the better of Hutchinson for second.

Behind them, IGT Kawsaki’s Jeremy Toye passed John McGuinness for fourth place ahead of Gary Johnson on IGT Suzuki by TAS who grabbed fifth on the last lap as Hutchinson’s rear tire went off.
