When former Supersonic team owner Danilo Soncini announced back in September that he was withdrawing his team from World Superbikes, everyone thought that the principal reason he was pulling out was the usual financial one, especially after he sold the squad to Andrea Petricca who renamed the squad Red Devils Roma Team.
Instead we should have believed more in Soncini’s words when he stated in the good-bye press release “To try to stay in this wonderful sport, I will restart to sponsor some riders or teams, likes some years ago in Motogp, because the Italian manager has decided not only to be one of Red Devils Roma Team’s sponsors, but also re-enter the world of racing, but this time in the 2012 British Superbike championship.
“We are proud to announce our decision to join BSB. Last year I decided to leave the World Superbike Championship after two years with a lot of satisfaction and good feeling, but I felt it was necessary to change something in my life. This decision was really hard and now I can only say that I’m happy to take part in the 2012 British Superbike Championship season with my team. We are absolutely focused on our goals for 2012 with the support of BMW, who will help us directly throughout our journey in this new adventure. Our approach for this year is to reach the top as soon as possible with all the passion and the determination that we have always shown in the past.” said Soncini.
Supersonic Racing will be fielding BMW S1000RR’s and has yet to announce who the team’s two riders will be.
