Robertino Pietri to ride in AMA with Team Venezuela
Former Moto2 rider Robertino Pietri will be riding part time (he is scheduled for five wild card rides - three Spanish rounds plus Indianapolis and Laguna Seca) in MotoGP this season with Avintia Racing, but the Venezuelan rider will also contesting in the 2012 AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Championship.
For Pietri it will be return to the USA after having spent three seasons racing, from 2006 to 2009 in Superstock, Superbike and Daytona Sportbike categories and this season he’ll be riding a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 prepared by John Ulrich’s Team Hammer/M4 but under the Team Venezuela banner.
“I know the tracks on the calendar, I hope to adapt quickly to the Suzuki GSX-R 1000,” said Pietri. “Fortunately, I’ll be working with people who I already know and believe there is a chance of doing well. The American Superbike is a competitive series, as Josh Hayes showed when it came to race in MotoGP in Valencia (he replaced injured Colin Edwards in Yamaha Tech3). Contesting in the AMA will be an important experience for me to prepare for MotoGP. “
The AMA championship kicks off with the Daytona 200 March 15th.

The once mighty (back in the 80’s) AMA was the “it” series and now it’s a joke It’s a Suzuki only cup run by idio ts who hold major races like Daytona on a Thursday in front of (maybe) 3,000 spectators! Some of the US tracks are in deplorable condition (run wide in Utah and you get bogged down in mud, forever) others don’t even have curbing… no factory involvement, embarrassing TV coverage (there is no worse TV coverage than SPEED channel - announcers who can barely speak english - crap cameras and camera angles. what’s the point? Message to the world - please don’t try to watch AMA superbike, it’s too disgraceful.
