BMW S1000RR titanium valves in action video

By Alison in: Superbikes/Replica Engineering Video Bmw

See the BMW S1000RR valves in action in this video and while you might think that nearly three and a half minutes of this is boring, it’s actually very mesmerising. It’s not every day we get to see the engine function of a bike with 193 hp. The S1000RR lightweight engine of just 59.8 kg is due to the use of superlight titanium, and it can rev to a maximum of 14,200 rpm, with maximum torque output of 112 Nm at 9,750 rpm.

BMW S1000RR live test pics and video

Test BMW S 1000 RR Portimao

These live test pics of the BMW S 1000 RR come courtesy of our colleagues at Motoblog.it, who have been lucky enough to test the new BMW superbike on the track at Portimao. Their conclusions are perhaps hardly surprising for those who’ve been waiting for this bike - despite its speed and superbike qualities, it’s still very BMW-like with stunning technology and design quality. In short, the best of what we know about BMW and German-designed cars, has been translated into the European motorcycle version of a supercar.

It seems that the four long years in developing the BMW S 1000 RR have paid off, and creating a flop was not an option for the company, considering the quality of the Japanese competition. BMW customers are unlikely to worry about the higher price - after all, they’re getting the first BMW superbike. And if you follow the advice of the guys at MCN, switching off some of the BMW S 1000 RR’s technology will give you an even greater ride.

See after the jump for more live test pics from Portimao, and a video from the international press of the S 1000 RR on the track. I recommend the video - it seems that the press members ride the hell out of any machine they get their hands on and it translates into a whole lot of fun!

BMW S 1000 RR gallery

By Alison in: Superbikes/Replica Bmw

Bmw S 1000 RR:

Something to drool over this weekend are these shots of the BMW S 1000 RR; after having seen it already at Monza Superbike, here’s another lovely gallery. This is the S1000 RR road version, and is a much-awaited addition to the supersports segment.

With this new model, BMW really completes its range, and proves it’s a competitor in most segments. News and technical specs on the S 1000 RR are coming up, and over the coming year we’ll see how it compares to the Ducati 1198 and Aprilia RSV4.

Things are certainly getting exciting in the Superbike, and this is the chance for customers to live that same energy on the road. Enjoy the gallery.

Supersport BMW S 1000 RR road version

By Alison in: Superbikes/Replica Bmw

BMW S 1000 RR 2009 stradale

Finally arrived is the road version of the S 1000 RR, BMW’s superbike effort that will be presented at the World Superbike Championships at Phillip Island in March. After recent tests in Portimao and Valencia, riders Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus are positive about the future for the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Team.

The racing bike version will be similar to the series bike, in line with the sports spirit. Production of the road version has already commenced with a completely new package, compact and light, and a four cylinder, in line 999cc engine. The dry weight comes in at 183 kg, and combined with the performance, this makes for an attractive new package from BMW.

The whole bike, from valves to twin cam, has been designed to be light and compact with dimensions at the level of a Formula 1. This should enable the complete torque and performance of the bike to be fully exploited.

Video BMW S1000RR Superbike

By Alison in: Superbikes/Replica Video Bmw

Even when this bike moves in slow motion it looks like it’s going fast. BMW Motorrad has released on its Web TV channel the video of the BMW S1000RR Superbike that Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus will ride in 2009’s World Superbike Championship.

It’s quite an exciting video though I have to say if I had a ride (as passenger that is!) I would likely either be sick or fall off for the adrenalin of the thing. Below we give you a few more shots of this lovely masterpiece whose performance we will see next year.
