Troy Corser back to fitness, will be at Silverstone

By Toni M.

Troy Corser

Troy Corser will be rejoining his BMW Motorrad team this weekend at Silverstone after recovering from a broken arm that ruled him out of the Brno round.

The Australian broke the ulna and radius in his left arm in a collision with Maxime Berger during race 2 at the Motorland Aragon circuit a little more than a month ago and subsequently had to undergo surgery to have the two bones plated and twelves screws inserted.

“After my injury in Aragón, I am now really looking forward to jumping on my bike again,”
said Corser. “I have been back in physical training for the last couple of weeks, and I do not feel any pain in my arm. I rode dirt bikes just to check how fit I am, and all feels good.”

By Toni M.

troy corser

Troy Corser tangled with rookie Maxime Berger on the very first lap of race 2 during last Sunday’s round at Aragon and ended up with a broken ulna and radius in his the left forearm that required surgery.

On Monday evening at the Alxandra Hospital in Manchester, the Australian rider underwent surgery where two titanium plates and twelve screws, six per bone were inserted into his arm by Dr. Mike Hayton (the same surgeon who fixed Jonathan Rea broken wrist last week).

The BMW factory rider is now recovering and patiently waiting for his bones to heal, but has already been ruled out from the 8th World Superbike round that takes place at Brno July 10th.

Troy Corser and Leon Haslam get the BMW Driving Experience

By Toni M.

Corser and Haslam at BMW driving experience

Ah, the perks of being a Superbike racer, besides getting to ride and compete on the best bikes, you get to travel the world, you’ve got fans and you can eye the hot brolly girls and you even get top notch driving lessons on cars as Leon Haslam and Troy Corser did when the completed a personalised driver training session in Munich.

The two BMW riders switched from their Superbikes to a BMW 330i for the BMW Driving Experience with instructor Jörg Weidinger who began the “driving lesson” at the BMW Driver Training centre at Munich Airport by gaining an impression of what each of the top motorcyclists was capable of. He then selected appropriate exercises, which were tailored to the individual needs of Leon and Troy.

“You can tell that they are both used to pushing a vehicle to the limit. That was no problem for them,” Weidinger remarked. “They were not the only ones enjoying themselves out there – I was too. You can tell that they are hungry to learn. They asked questions and took advice on board in order to improve and get faster.”

BMW Motorrad Superbike team wraps up testing at Eastern Creek

By Toni M.

BMW Motorrad testing at Eastern Creek

While all the attention was focused on the official 3-day Superbike tests at Portimao, the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Superbike team was quietly conductiong their own private 3-day test, and in much better, even torridly hot weather conditions at the Eastern Creek track in Australia.

Troy Corser and Leon Haslam worked on tire grip, electronics and settings, while Corser seemed very satisfied about the test and by the fact he set a new lap record 1:29.5, Haslam seems slightly less enthusiastic, as his best time was 1:30.5, one second slower than his veteran team mate.

“I am pretty happy with the progress that we made on my bike. We worked on electronics, traction and rear wheel activation. In all areas we made some good steps,” said Corser. “I also tried some chassis, geometry and fork setting. We concentrated on these areas to give us some information and to understand what we need to do if we get the same situation. The lap times got better and better as we improved the bike and the better the circuit became. The lap time we got to quite comfortably is very good for this track.”

BMW sends Superbike riders to boot camp

By Toni M.

BMW Fitness Camp

In a not so distant past, riders got fit their own way. In one hand, they held a bottle that didn’t have water or an energy drink in it, and in the other a cigarette and some good looking babes hanging on to their arms. While former Superbike bad boy, Marco Lucchinelli likes to tell that on the eve of a race, he stayed up all night rockin’ at a Van Halen concert and the next day he won, but nowadays racing and fitness go hand and hand, and it’s very serious and scientific business.

So it’s not surprising that Troy Corser, Leon Haslam, James Toseland and Aryton Badovini find themselves at BMW’s fitness camp for a week of intense physical and psychological sports training, and diets (hope they won’t turn into lightweights like Nicky Hayden has become) and get this, they also have to take German language lessons, so they can learn to say chassis and some other highly technical term.

“Basically, we are looking for a complete fitness training”
, said team doctor Dr. Vincenzo Tota, who guides the BMW fitness camp. “So, for example, we are doing some mountain biking as an aerobic training, or climbing as an exercise for specific muscles. While climbing, you use calves and forearms, like you do on the bike. And you also train your balance. With the weight lifting, we increase the power of the muscles. But in order to also improve stamina and resistance, we do not go for big weights, but for a lot of repetitions with small weights.”

Troy Corser and Leon Haslam hit the wind tunnel

By Toni M.

Corser and Haslam in BMW wind tunnel testing

BMW riders Troy Corser and Leon Haslam were in BMW’s aerodynamic department in Munich on Monday afternoon working on the aerodynamics of the S 1000RR in the company’s wind tunnel.

The goal was to optimise the riding positions and they used imulated speeds up to 240 km/h, trying out several different positions and body angles in order to find the ones that minimise drag as much as possible.

The team also worked on optimising the aerodynamic efficiency of the wind shield of the 2011 BMW S 1000 RR. The data collected will now be analysed in detail. Based on these results, the bike will be prepared for the next winter test that takes place at the end of November in Jerez.

By Toni M.

carlos checa

Althea Ducati’s Carlos Checa took the top spot in this afternoon’s qualifying practice 1 at Nurburgring and lead an almost all Ducati charge, with only Troy Corser able to put his BMW in second with a final lunge in the dying minutes of the session.

Max Biaggi dropped from his first spot in free practice to sixth in this session with Cal Crutchlow and Jonathan Rea in seventh and eighth, while Jakub Smrz on his privateer Aprilia took the ninth position and Tom Sykes who tested the new 2011 Ninja at Almeria rounded out the top ten position.

WSBK Silverstone: Cal Crutchlow Dominates QP1

By Toni M.

cal crutchlow

Cal Crutchlow took over the British domination from Jonathan Rea in the first qualifying practice at Silverstone. The Brit was able to put down a best lap of 2′05″664 and the only rider to go under 2.05 mark several times and that put him in the top spot for the provisional pole, leaving free practice leader Jonathan Rea in second and behind with 0.342s gap.

BMW’s Troy Corser headed up in third and he was a mere 0.012s from the Honda Ten Kate rider. Leon Camier continued his good form on his home turf with a fourth place on his Aprilia RSV4, out pacing his team mate Max Biaggi, who managed to climb up the charts from 18th to 7th. The fifth spot was taken by Ducati’s Michel Fabrizio and he was less than one tenth of a second from Rea.

James Toseland and Leon Haslam despite being faster in this session, dropped down from their previous positions in the first free practice to take 6th and 8th respectively. Ninth went to Carlos Checa, with Tom Sykes closing out the top ten and the last rider within a second from Crutchlow’s best time.

Troy Corser Ruled Out of Brno Race

By Toni M.

troy corser

Troy Corser has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Superbike race at Brno. The BMW rider highsided and crashed in the final minutes of yesterday’s QP 1 and suffered a concussion and breathing problems and bruising to his chest and neck when his bike hit him.

Taken to the circuit’s medical centre and was conscious, but as a precautionary measure was airlifted to the Brno hospital where he underwent X-rays and a CT scan and was kept overnight under observation.

After being discharged this morning, Corser and Dr. Vicenzo Tota, the team’s doctor, decided that it would be better that he not race for the rest of the weekend.

“Unfortunately I cannot race this weekend. I feel quite exhausted right now, and I have a pain in my chest. It was a huge impact, and I am happy I was not hurt badly. I remember the crash pretty well: I somehow lost the rear, and then I high sided. I would have loved to race in Brno, but we all agree I need a couple of days to rest now to be able to start in Silverstone.”
said Corser.

WSBK Misano: Max Biaggi gives himself a Brithday Present and Wins

By Toni M.

max biaggi

Three riders, two on factory bikes and one on a privateer Ducati, and the sum of the age of all three riders adds up to 116, but veterans Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa and Troy Corser, certainly didn’t show they have intention in slowing down in Race 1 at Misano Adriatico, but it was Max Biaggi who cruised to his seventh victory of the season.

Poleman Troy Corser took the lead of the race, but he had Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa constantly on his tail for two thirds of the race until the Aprilia rider, on the 17th lap passed him and then would never relinquish the lead to the finish line.

Corser running second tried to catch Biaggi, but an error two laps later let Carlos Checa through and the Austrialian with his tires fading could only finish in third.
