Vyrus 986 M2: here is the street legal version

By Adrian

Vyrus 986 M2 stradale

Italian manufacturer Vyrus releases through its facebook page the first images of the street legal version of the 986 M2, the latest creature of Vyrus’s mastermind Ascanio Rodorigo. The model is basically a Moto2 racer that has been tweaked in order to make it road legal, and therefore it is powered by the same 600 cc in-line four engine that is used in that class, which is the one of the Honda CBR600RR.

The brand new chassis of this bike uses the superior styling and technical accuracy that are typical of all the various Vyrus models we have seen throughout the years: the front wheel uses a swing arm (it steers through the wheel spindle), the frame is an upside-down Omega frame and the rear shock is mounted transverse. The shape of the front is very pointed, both the top fairing and the lower fairing, incorporated in the tank, reduce the turbulences at high speeds.

Other highlights of the model include Brembo brakes, Zard ‘4 into 2 into 1′ exhaust system, ultra light alutex fairings (a material also known as ‘white carbon’) and forged aluminum wheels courtesy of Marchesini. The mastery used for its creation and the stunning aesthetics surely make this bike a ‘head turner’: basically, it is a Moto2 bike with lights, indicators, wing mirrors and number plate holder. If you are wondering how this bike would actually feel like on a track, here is a nice video showing an early prototype in action on the Misano track.

Video: how the Vyrus 986 M2 is built

By Alison

If you’re wondering what that first sentence in Italian means it’s a kind of play on words that says that before motor monotony reigned in motorcycles. Obviously the Vyrus 986 M2 bike is here to change that. This video shows how the new Moto2 weapon is built but you’ll have to perservere with it because it’s not an easy video to watch (and neither is the music particularly easy on the ears).

Skip the black labrador (chief Vyrus mascot?) and go to the one-minute mark where things really kick off and you can see the 986 M2 built in a series of fast photographics, one after the other. Apart from the innovative chassis and frame setup, the MCN Vyrus 986 M2 track ride convinced us of the possibilities of this bike, and if someone wants to take a gamble it could be very competitive in the Moto2 class.

Vyrus 986 M2 track video

By Alison

We’ve already been introduced to the Vyrus 987 motorcycle and here we see the first track video of the 986 four-cylinder racing bike. The Vyrus 986 M2 has been built for Moto2 regulations and is therefore equipped with a Honda CBR600RR engine, on a new chassis. It was first shown at the Motor Bike Expo in Verona in January.

The most innovative part of the Vyrus is how the chassis works. The front end has no real fork as the steering connects directly to the hub - in its place is a swing arm. The whole chassis is actually a carbonfibre monocoque structure which houses the engine in a kind of cradle. The frame to do that is an upside-down omega frame which the engine squats in.

The upper part is where the tank and steering is and obviously where the rider sits, and the rest of the components are all bolted inside the monocoque space. All of that gives the Vyrus 986 M2 an amazing look. The Vyrus 986 is not just about innovation for the sake of it - as Michael Neeves from MCN explains, the bike is superior in handling and cornering to any other in its class, and offers incredible stability at high speeds. Check it all out in the video - especially the part about how this performs as a Moto2 bike.

Vyrus 987 test ride by Tor Sagen

By Alison

Vyrus 987 C3 4V

“Pure crazy technology” is what appears on the tail of the Vyrus 987 C3 4V and you can’t get more specific than that. This video shows a test ride of the Vyrus from Tor Sagen and the engine sound is unmistakable - the same rumble of the Ducati 1198R.

The Vyrus is about as frenzied as you can get, too: the top speed is 310 km/hr, it has 184 hp and 13.5 Kgm of torque at 7,000 rpm. And all this for just 155 kg. This is one bike dedicated to the petrol heads ‘made in Italy’. See the Vyrus video test ride after the jump.

Vyrus 987 C3 4V more (sexy) pics

Vyrus 987 C3 4V

Here are some more, even sexier pictures of the Vyrus 987 C3 4V in a professional beach photo shoot for the bike. Dubbed as the most powerful production bike ever (although reader figjam points out that title could go to the Asphaltfighters Stormbringer), the Vyrus has 184 hp and a top speed of 310 km/hr. The supercharged version of the Ducati 1198 V-Twin engine produces a reported 211 hp which makes it very fast. There’s also a 170 hp version, but that’s starting to sound boring in comparison…

Vyrus 987 C3 4V: live pics and official details

By Alison

vyrus 987 c34v

The Vyrus 987 C3 4V is equipped with the Ducati 1198 engine and is a real missile on wheels. It has a top speed of 310 km/hr with 184 hp and weighs just 155 kg. This is another stunning example of Italian motorcycle design, created by Ascanio Rodrigo who is using with hub-centre steering. This system that encloses the steering element in the front wheel and separates it from braking and suspension functions.

Together with the chassis, the hub-centre steering creates an easy ride, but don’t let the Vyrus workshop fool you into thinking this is an easygoing bike. In addition to the horse power, the Ducati engine has 13.5 Kgm of torque (approximately 130 Nm) at just 7,500 rpm. A 211-hp version may also turn up, making this the world’s most powerful street-legal bike. Check it out in the gallery - the live pics are from the Motor Bike Expo, courtesy of the guys at Motoblog.it.

With thanks to our reader, Stramaxxa, we can enjoy this interesting video (with English subtitles), revealing a unique presence in the world of two wheels. An idea which became a project and a dream is the Vyrus, a work from genius Ascanio Rodrigo.

With care and attention, and the support of some precious collaborators, Rodrigo created a workshop for unique objects. In this video he explains the handicraft of the work, and the tradition and technology of the brand. All the small miracles for whoever wanted to know how the Vyrus came to be.

Vyrus exclusive partner at Motogiro d’Italia

By Alison

Vyrus 985 C3 4V Infinity

The historical revival of the “Motogiro d’Italia”, relaunched by Dream Engine (marketing and communications agency) in 2001, this year continues with a new esclusive partner, Vyrus.

The partnership with Motogiro d’Italia started in 2008 because Vyrus decided to join the Motogiro values, including excellency, esclusivity, beauty and rarity. Vyrus and Motogiro are, in their own ways, two luxury brands and two worlds in which the passion for riding is gold.

With its 985 C3 V4, Vyrus is all carbon fibre and speed, while Motogiro d’Italia is more elderly and experienced: this is what riders registering in 2008 can expect.
