Uccio and the mohawk replica

By Toni M.

uccio at sepang

Uccio, Valentino Rossi BFF or as he’s now know internationally as Rossi’s bitch, thanks to Colin Edwards, showed up at Sepang sporting this very unfashionable mohawk.

Is he getting a cut from Diesel to walk around with a replica of their mohawk logo, that’s now stickered to the Ducati GP 11, or is he copycatting his best friend’s ‘do from last year? We personally think he should have tried to bring back the mullet, now that would have been more original.

More on the Uccio and Valentino Rossi Moto2 team

By Alison

Rossi and Uccio

Could we see Valentino Rossi and his sidekick Uccio make an appearance as team managers in Moto2? It would be an exciting thing if we did and firmly stamp Rossi’s legacy all over the MotoGP and its younger series. According to rumours, Rossi has been in talks with Eskil Suter, a supplier of 600cc engines over a chassis deal, while Alessio Salucci (aka Uccio) would be negotiating with Andrea Iannone as the first rider in the team. Contact with Rossano Brazzi, former crew chief at Aprilia and the 250cc championship win of Rossi, has also been named.

The rumours originally surfaced on Moto.it and have gained ground on MCN. It’s said though, that the Rossi Moto2 team would have to be ready for next year although applications for new teams must be in by September 28. With Rossi heading off to Ducati for two years, it’s also difficult to see him having a hands-on role in the outfit but it’s a rumour we can easily believe.

An MCN source has been quoted as saying: “It looks like one very high profile MotoGP rider will have his own Moto2 team next season. Iannone will be one rider. He has interest from just about every team, but it looks like he will end up with Valentino.” Initial team applications will be revealed at the MotoGP Sepang before teams are finalised in November. We don’t know about you, but we’d love to see Rossi get involved in some grass roots initiatives, if the Moto2 is to be considered that, but maybe with some of Daniele Romagnoli suggestions for Moto2 improvements.

Moto2: Andrea Iannone and Alessio Salucci to form Moto2 team?

By Toni M.

andrea iannone

I had to check my calendar to see if it wasn’t April Fools Day, because the latest news coming from Aragon, is that Moto2 Speed Up rider Andrea Iannone (first in this morning’s free practice) wants to form his own Moto2 team next year and want’s Alessio Salucci who is better known as Valentino Rossi’s best friend, Uccio as his team manager.

Apparently this project is well on it’s way because the Italians have found an important sponsor and they’ve already contacted legendary Aprilia crew chief Rossano Brazzi (who isn’t in the paddock this year) who crewed for among others, Valentino Rossi, Marco Melandri and Manuel Poggiali.

It seems Uccio wasn’t kidding when he said in an interview, “I might become a personal manager for riders; in all these years I’ve become pretty good at picking out good riders.”

Rossi will be the starting driver: “I want to see how I handle the tussle so I’m doing the start. Up to now I’ve aways driven alone so I want to see what happens in a car race start.”

One of Rossi’s rivals will be Emanuele Pirro, five times winner the 24 Hours of Le Mans who qualified third with a Corvette Z06 GT3 from Scuderia 22, who asked Rossi at the end of session which was better, motorcycles or cars? “I can’t compare cars to bikes” replied Rossi. “It would be like comparing soccer to basketball.”

The race starts tomorrow morning at 9:30.

Alessio Salucci: Out of the Shadow, Into the limelight

By Toni M.

alessio salucci uccio

I bet most of you are thinking who the hell is Alessio Salucci? You’ve seen him hundreds of times at the parc ferme with a yellow towel and cap in his hands, he’s better know by his nickname “Uccio.”

Salucci has been interviewed in the October issue of Riders, here’s a few Q&A’s that let’s us in on some of the aspects of his life.

Uccio and Valentino Rossi have been best friends since they were four years old, but he also works as his personal assistant and drives the Monaco Dynasty motorhome around all the European circuits and get’s his paycheck from Rossi’s management company VR46, along with four other people: Albi, the press officer, Carlo, the accountant, Carlo, his personal trainer and Rossi’s dad, Graziano who’s the CEO.

Do you feel more like a friend, a psychologist or a driver?

A real friend, someone you can talk to and to take a load off your chest if you need to. Valentino is always under a lot of pressure, at the racetrack and even at home, he needs someone like me.

And your paycheck?

If I tell you, Valentino will kick my ass. I can’t complain though, he pays me well, very well.
