Melissa Satta is a well known Italian showgirl and a fashion model (she was photographed in Sport Illustrated’s 2010 swimsuit edition wearing only bodypaint, but didn’t make the cut as a model for Victoria’s Secret).
Satta recently put her personal Alpinestars motorcycle leathers and boots up for a charity auction on eBay.These are a special one-off edition as they were customized by artist Lucio Barbuio. The proceeds will go to help children with autism in memory of the late Marco Simoncelli (he used to spend hours visiting with the kids of this association located in Rimini).

Alpinestars started experimenting an airbag system back in 2003 with John Hopkins, and then Casey Stoner, Ben Spies, Mika Kallio and Dani Pedrosa all began wearing data logging suits to help Alpinestars come up with the new Tech Air electronic airbag system, which is targeted for production for June of this year.
Since the idea of making the use of airbag leathers mandatory from 2012 in Grand Prix racing, and Repsol Honda and Alpinestars have decided to explain how the leathers that their riders Casey Stoner, Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa wear, actually work (but if you click on the Tech Air link above you, can see a video of the suit inflating).
Press release:
“Rider safety is of paramount importance and all three Repsol Honda Riders are equipped with state-of-the-art technology in the form of Alpinestars Tech Air electronic airbag system.

Alpinestars continues to promote their riders, but we found this video on the Ben Spies Official Italian fan club website, that let’s us get an even closer look at the American MotoGP rider.
It gives a little more insight on how he disconnects from the pressure of racing by riding a bicycle, it also gives a look at his home in Texas and very impressive full trophy room, but more than anything we love the fact that he’s got Pirsig’s ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintence’ and the Matt Stone’s ‘McQueen’s Machines: The Cars and Bikes of a Hollywood Icon’ on his coffee table. That makes for one very cool motorcycle racer.

Alpinestars has released another of their Beyond the Riders videos, and after the interviews with reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, this time it’s with his Yamaha team mate Ben Spies.
Who would have expected that the apparently calm and collected, super cool Spies used to have temper tantrums as a kid? So we might be guessing that it was his parents who actually gave him the nick name ‘Texas Terror’ for the first time.

Alpinestars’ Beyond The Riders: Dovizioso-Stoner-Pedrosa from Alpinestars USA on Vimeo.
After Jorge Lorenzo’s in-depth interview, Alpinestars has gotten three of the more reluctant and shyest MotoGP riders to talk about themselves, which certainly was no mean feat.
Andrea Dovizioso, Dani Pedrosa, and Casey Stoner all give you some insight on how very deep their love of racing runs inside them, besides telling us what their favourite circuit, favourite corner and favourite race and why.

Earlier this month we showed you a preview video of Jorge Lorenzo for Alpinestars, now we get the full interview of the 2010 MotoGP Champion talking about his childhood, how he got into racing and pursued his career.
If you’ve already happened to read Lorenzo’s autobiography “My Story so Far” (which we recommend to any MotoGP fan) and the book“Asi Se Prepara Un Futuro Campion” (how to prepare a future champion) written by his father Chicho, you’ll know all about his story, but in the video footage you also get some great pics of the champion growing up.

Jorge Lorenzo dropped Dainese for Alpinestars supposedly because arch rival Valentino Rossi is behind the company and because they didn’t use his status of MotoGP World Champion to his satisfaction.
Now wearing Alpinestars, Lorenzo will certainly be more happy because they’ve already started using him, as this promotional video testifies.
It’s going to be interesting to see what type of promos Alpinestars will have Jorge Lorenzo doing this year, but for the moment we have 16-year old Dakota Mamola, son of the legendary Randy, strutting his stuff for the Italian motorcycle apparel maker.
Mamola raced in the 2010 British 125 Championship for Team KRP finishing 15th, but competing in only five races with a best result of a 2nd place podium at Snetterton.

Lose a rider, gain a rider. Apparently Nicky Hayden isn’t as capricious as Jorge Lorenzo, and doesn’t care that his former and now once again team mate, Valentino Rossi is a shareholder in Dainese.
The former 2006 MotoGP world champion, will be switching from his longstanding Alpinestars leathers sponsorship to don the other iconic Italian leathers brand, Dainese in 2011.
The swaying power of Dainese née Valentino Rossi …

Jorge Lorenzo is slightly upset with Dainese and may be leaving his sponsor at the end of the year and switching to Alpinestars. Apparently the 2010 reigning World Champion is not happy with the fact that the Italian company, that supplies a number of professional riders, has failed to use him in any ad campaign exploiting his MotoGP title.
According to Spanish website Motocuatro.com, who has close ties with the Spanish rider’s staff, the question goes even deeper as Lorenzo has found out that his arch rival and former team mate, a certain pain in the ass that goes by the name of Valentino Rossi, is not only the honorary president of AGV Helmets (even if Lorenzo wears Nolan) which was purchased in 2007 by Dainese from Imag and that ‘The Doctor’ is also a shareholder in both companies and is close friends with Lino Dainese, who founded the company.
Dainese has been supplying and sponsoring the Spanish champion since his 250cc days and Lorenzo has also been involved in the D-Air leathers development and has always received the same technical treatment as the other Dainese riders, but Lorenzo wants more star power and wants to stay away from the still shining light of a certain MotoGP legend, who pulls sponsors towards him like a black hole or it could be something more simple and venal, like more sponsorship money.
It would also be interesting to hear Lorenzo’s take on the fact that despite his star qualities, the 2010 title, his character change from a sullen youngster to become a polite and well mannered superstar, his social networking, his total availability towards all his sponsors, Yamaha has yet to find a title sponsor to replace Fiat, despite big named companies like Petronas, Telefonica, and AirAsia having been bandied around.
