Andrea Dosoli new BMW World Superbike team manager

As rumored World Superbike team BMW Motorrad Motorrad will be returning to an Italian to run their team and it will be Andrea Dosoli who will taking over Rainer Bäumel’s role as Head of Race Operations.

Dosoli who has run teams like Hayate Forward Racing (ex Kawasaki), Forward Racing Moto2 and the now defunct Yamaha Superbike team, followed newly signed Marco Melandri in his first tests with the BMW S1000RR at Portimao and Jerez, but his role needed official confirmation which came on the first day of the new year.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Bernhard Gobmeier: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Andrea Dosoli on board. He has been involved in motorcycle racing for many years and boasts a wealth of experience as team manager. I am certain that Andrea is the ideal man to head our race team. With Andrea and our two works riders, Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri, we are well positioned for the coming season. We are looking forward to working together.”

Andrea Dosoli: “I am really motivated to succeed in my new role at BMW Motorrad Motorsport. Recent years have shown that the team and the BMW S 1000 RR have a lot of potential. It is now a matter of tapping the full capability. I am really looking forward to doing my bit. Marco Melandri is an old acquaintance: we have already worked together in MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship in the past. Leon Haslam has also demonstrated just what he is capable of, and I am looking forward to working with him. I hope we will see both of them on the top step of the podium this year.”

BMW's Rainer Bäumel leaves WSBK - replacement not named

baumel BMW Motorrad Motorsport World Superbike team is going through still another team re-shuffling, Rainer Bäumel who took over after Davide Tardozzi was ousted at the end of 2010, is leaving the squad as head of racing operations at the end of season and has been appointed Project Manager on a new vehicle project at BMW.

The new team manager has yet to be announced, but it is almost certain that Yamaha’s Andrea Dosoli will be following newly signed Marco Melandri to the German squad.

Change in personnel at BMW Motorrad Motorsport: Rainer Bäumel (45), Head of Race Operations, will leave the factory team at the end of the 2011 season, to take on the role of Project Manager on a new vehicle project at BMW Motorrad. The man from Landshut played a crucial role in the entry of BMW Motorrad Motorsport in the Superbike World Championship, and was involved in the sporting development of the team in various roles. Bäumel’s successor as Head of Race Operations will be announced at a later date.

WSBK: Andrea Dosoli team manager for Yamaha Sterilgarda

With Yamaha Sterilgarda’s Mario Meregalli to head to MotoGP and run Ben Spies’ side of the garage and Davide Tardozzi denying that he’ll be running the Yamaha Superbike team, the spot was still open, but according to Mathew Birt of MCN via Twitter confirmed today, that Andrea Dosoli has been appointed as team manger.

Dosoli ran this year’s Moto2 team Forward Racing (Suter) with Jules Cluzel and Claudio Corti and in 2009 was Marco Melandri’s team manager and crewchief in Hayate, so Melandri will see a welcome face when he tests the Yamaha R1 for the first time at Valencia November 11th.

Moto2: Hayate Racing Team changes name

The Hayate Racing Team that ran the 2009 season with an unbranded Kawasaki NinjaZX-RR after the factory’s decision to pullout of MotoGP, and last minute agreement between Dorna and the Japanese manufacturer saw the Hayate team run by Andrea Dosoli.

The Hayate team will not be partecipating in the 2010 MotoGP championship, but Dosoli’s team will be in the new 600 four stroke Moto2 class, but have decided to change the squad’s name from Hayate to Forward Racing.

Forward Racing will have two rider line up (Ricky Cardùs will be one of the riders, and the second should be Jules Cluzel) and they will be using the Swiss Suter MMX.
