Andrew Pitt hangs up his lid

By Toni M.

andrew pitt Andrew Pitt has done it all. He’s a former two-time World Supersport Champion, competed in MotoGP, in World Superbikes, in British Superbikes and now the 35 year old rider has announced he’s retiring from motorcycle racing following a shoulder injury he sustained at Brands Hatch in 2010 that caused irreversible nerve damage.

Pitt was the Australian Supersport Champion and runner up Superbike Champion, riding for Team Kawasaki Australia, which then led a three year contract with Kawasaki at an international level.

In 2001, in his second year of WSS he became the World Supersport Champion, followed by another season in WSS, after which he was recluted by Kawasaki’s MotoGP to compete in the final rounds of the season giving the green team its first ever points by taking 12th at Valencia. He then signed on for the full 2003 season with the Kawasaki MotoGP team. In 2004 he was riding for Moriwaki as part of their development programme.

In 2005 and 2006 rode for Yamaha in World Superbikes and in 2007 was back in WSS with a parenthesis in MotoGP on the fated Ilmor while being a test rider for both Yamaha and Michelin. In 2008 he took his second World Supersport title with Ten Kate Honda, while in 2009 finished 6th-before returning to World Superbikes in 2010 with the debuting Reitwagen BMW team who disappeared after just a few rounds. Pitt was left in a lurch but found a place in British Superbikes with Motorpoint Yamaha until the crash at Brands Hatch.

“When I first came to Europe in 2000 I could never have imagined I would spend 11 seasons racing in the World Championship. It really has been a fun ride and I have gained lots of great memories, as well as some painful ones, along the way. Winning the World Championships was something that I will have forever and never forget. And riding some of the best machines in the world has been incredible.”

Talmacsi, Pesek and Pitt all in talks with WSBK team Pedercini

By Toni M.

gabor talmacsi

Kawasaki is going all out to try to ensure that in 2011 they are going to be on the podium, and their upcoming test at Sepang from January 10th to 14th is another example of their intention, with at least nine riders that are going to be testing the 2011 Ninja in Malaysia.

Tom Sykes, Joan Lascorz and Chris Vermeulen, the official Kawasaki SBK riders, add Stuart Easton in case Vermeulen is still not fit enough, and test rider Katsuaki Fujiwara and Team Pedercini’s newly signed Roberto Rolfo.

Pedercini will also be taking to Malaysia all three of their Superstock riders, Marco Bussolotti, Leandro Mercado and the 2010 Australian Superbike champion, Bryan Starling who was suggested to the Italian team by Troy Bayliss.

In a long interview with Motosprint.it Lucio Pedercini confirmed that his team will field a second rider in 2011 alongside Roberto Rolfo, and they’re in talks with numerous riders who are offering themselves to ride for the Kawasaki privateer team. Names on the short list include two former Moto2 riders, Gabor Talmacsi (jobless after the Jack&Jones team folded) and Lukas Pesek (axed from Matteoni Racing). Andrew Pitt’s name is still on the table, if he lowers his economic requests, and Massimo Roccoli is also on the list

Pedercini also confirmed that they will have full technical support from Kawasaki.

Andrew Pitt to Pedercini WSBK team?

By Toni M.

andrew pitt

If we were to place a rider in a top ten 2010 horrid season list, it would have to be Andrew Pitt. The two times world supersport champion and veteran world superbike and MotoGP rider started this season with Reitwagen Motosport BMW world superbike team that folded after just three rounds due to funding problems leaving him high and dry.

Pitt later found a ride with Rob McElnea’s BSB Motorpoint Yamaha team replacing the retiring Neil Hodgson and Ian Lowry, but two months later fractured his collarbone during Race 2 at Brands Hatch and then was dropped from the team, with no place to go after recovering from surgery.

The latest rumors however, have the Australian returning to World Superbike championship with Kawasaki privateer Pedercini Team. Apparently Kawasaki wants to make a big splash in 2011, because after announcing a three rider factory effort with Chris Vermeulen, Joan Lascorz and Tom Sykes, it seems they’ll also be supplying the 2011 ZX-10R to Pedercini.

Moto2: RSM Scot Racing will be at Brno with Suter bike

By Toni M.

niccolò canepa rsm scot racing

Just yesterday we revealed that RSM Scot Racing was having economic problems and that Rapid Inside NCS had announced the end of their cooperation with the team (they supplied the frame) and that a court order had been issued and that the Sammarinese team was at risk of skipping this weekend’s Brno GP.

However Mularoni’s Moto2 team seems to have momentarily solved their woes and will be present in the Czech Republic and according to today’s press release Niccolò Canepa will be riding a full fledged Moto2 Suter Racing bike instead of their GP210 Force machine.

Emanuele Ventura (Technical Director): “Suter assured us a competitive bike, updated with all the solutions resulting from the experience collected in the first part of the Championship. It is a new bike for us, but Suter technical personnel will support our crew at this GP, to minimise the time necessary to us to study it and allow Niccolò to ride at his best”.

There is no mention if they will be replacing Andrew Pitt (the unlucky Aussie rider broke his collarbone in three places during race 2 of the BSB Championship round at Brands Hatch last weekend) who was supposed to make his Moto2 debut at Brno in place of Alex de Angelis who is currently subbing for injured Hiroshi Aoyama in MotoGP.

Moto2: Andrew Pitt to Sub for Alex Angelis

By Toni M.

andrew pitt RSM Scot Racing has chosen two time Supersport World champion (2001 with Kawasaki, 2008 with Honda Ten Kate) Andrew Pitt as Alex De Angelis subsitute in their Moto2 team. DeAngelis in turn is subbing for injured Hiroshi Aoyama in the Interwetten Honda MotoGP team for the next five or six rounds.

Pitt will race all the Moto2 GPs the De Angelis will miss except for the upcoming Sachsenring round where the Sammarinese team is going solo, fielding only Niccolò Canepa.

Emanuele Ventura (Technical Director) said : “As a consequence of the crash suffered in Catalunya by Niccolò, his bike caught fire and was destroyed by flames - just the frontfork and front brake caliper survived*. Having to re-build the entire bike, we decided for a modified frame, taking into account all information we got from this first part of the season. It will take a longer time to have it ready and we’re going to compete in Germany with just one bike, but it seems to us the wiser way to proceed. Anyway, while Andrew will debut with us as a GP rider in Brno, we are already organizing a test before, to allow him to begin his testing duties as soon as possible, as developing the bike is the major issue, at the moment, for us”.

The Australian rider has had a topsy turvy 2010 season so far. He first started the season in the World Superbike Championship riding for the new defunct BMW privateer team Reitwagen and then was called in to replace Ian Lowry (who replaced the retiring Neil Hodgson) in Motorpoint Yamaha team in the BSB Championship. Pitt has competed in 23 MotoGP races and has an important experience as a tester (Moriwaki, Ilmor, Michelin, Yamaha).

* Note:
When Canepa’s Moto 2 bike went up in a fireball at Catalunya, the Italian rider revealed to the Italian media that the first marshal who arrived at the scene of the crash did not have a fire extinguisher with him and when the second marshal showed up (after four or five laps) his fire extinguisher did not work. We’d like to know what would have happened to Canepa if his leathers had been covered with spilt fuel and had caught fire? Just thinking about this hypothetical situation, gives us the shivers.

WSBK Monza: Andrew Pitt left without a ride, looking for a new team

By Toni M.

andrew pitt

Reitwagen BMW dropped out of the Assen round of the World Superbike championship team due to funding problems, with a promise that they would be back for Monza, however the Austrian team didn’t show up leaving both Andrew Pitt and Roland Resch high and dry and no idea if they’ll be riding again this year.

Pitt is at the Monza paddock taking in the races and is now looking for a new ride, voicing his concerns about the future of Reitwagen Motosport BMW team as the team owners have gone into hiding and are avoiding all efforts to be contacted.

“The team has decided to withdraw from this weekend due to ongoing financial problems,” said Pitt. “This comes as no surprise to me and I feel that the team had no intention of competing here this weekend. There is a complete lack of communication at this stage and nobody can be contacted. I am meeting with BMW shortly to discuss these problems. I am also fielding offers from BSB, EWC and other WSBK teams.”

Roland Resch has also confirmed via his blog that he too is looking for other options.

Andrew Pitt, however will be at Monza taking in the two races from the sidelines.

Pro Ride Honda and Makoto Tamada continue to be missing in action with no clear date when the team will debut or if they ever will. The Italian team despite having Speed of Japan in charge of their marketing and sponsorship sales as yet to find a major sponsor to back the team.

Squadra Corse Italia Honda sole rider Vittorio Iannuzzo will be racing at Monza. Iannuzzo picked up hand injuries after his crash with Simon Andrews during the Valencia round that kept him out of Assen, but the Italian has now returned to full fitness.

WSBK: Reitwagen BMW to be back for Monza Round?

By Toni M.

andrew pitt

World Superbike Team Reitwagen BMW sat out last weekend’s fourth championship round, a delay due to economic difficulties with some of the investors in the team and some internal restructuring that forced the Austrian based team make the difficult decision to skip Assen.

Andrew Pitt, one of the team’s two riders, speaking to Motonline.com says that his new team aims to be back for the upcoming round at Monza, that takes place on May 7-9.

“Obviously I’m disappointed that I’m a spectator here at Assen and I love this circuit. I found out we were not racing here during the week. I’m told there is some financial restructuring going on and that there is no point racing until the bike can be further developed, so the aim is to make a comeback at Monza.”

WSBK: Reitwagen BMW to miss Assen

By Toni M.

reitwagen team 2010

After just three rounds, privateer Team Reitwagen BMW is in financial trouble. According to the latest news, the squad who runs Andrew Pitt and Roland Resch, has run out of the necessary funding in order to continue to compete in the World Superbike Championship and will be skipping this weekend’s scheduled round at Assen.

The future of the Austrian based team is hanging on a thread and will be decided today at BMW’s headquarters in Munich, where the racing and especially the accounting department bigwigs, who hold the money reins, will see if they can financially help support, not only the official BMW team, but also the satellite team for the rest of the 2010 season.
