In this economic market you need to promote your motorcycles and make them look better than your direct competitors (read Ducati), so this is what Aprilia USA came up with.
Stunt-rider Jamie Robinson takes the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 around and up and down the streets of the City of Angels showing us some very famous landmarks while displaying all the bike’s got in matter of performance and agility in bustling city traffic and urban settings.
With its three riding modes, Sport, Touring and Rain and its 1200cc twin-cylinder engine, the Dorsoduro is adapt to any road condition and personal need, following the Aprilia philosophy is that this is a fun and versatile bike as Robinson show us.
The 2012 model also gets also a couple of new two-tone color schemes: black-white with red inserts and black-red with grey inserts
Apparently you can do almost anything with Aprilia’s maximotard the Dorsoduro 1200, that debuted at last year’s EICMA show.
Check out this latest promo video from the Italian manufacturer, which has to be one of their better advertising efforts for their 1200cc twin-cylinder motorcycle.
As we get down to deciding the best bike at the 2010 Intermot show, here are the final contenders for the crown. In addition to its electronic-oriented RSV4 Factory APRC SE, Aprilia also brought along the new Dorsoduro 1200. While we saw the Dorsoduro preview in Milan, here we get more pics and details on the new Dorsoduro take.
This particular version is all about high power in the agile chassis of the Dorsoduro. It’s the first time the 1200cc twin-cylinder engine has equipped this famous bike from Aprilia and we’re keen to see how it fares on the market. While Aprilia has opened its press release on the Dorsoduro 1200 with the same opening about racing history as the new RSV4 special edition, we assume this has got to do more with Piaggio’s new company plan to have Aprilia focus on performance sports bikes than any link to be made between the Dorsoduro and previous MotoGP wins.
The driving philosophy behind the new Dorsoduro 1200 is to often fun and precision on a high-powered maximotard. Sifting through the marketing speak, we glean that the bigger Dorsoduro should build on the 750 model but provide a more high powered option in the street bike/supermoto mix. Aprilia’s word of the day is fun and with the nifty chassis and 130 hp we’re inclined to believe them. Below you’ll find all the pics and technical details of the new Dorsoduro 1200.

The Piaggio group will be presenting some new models at the 2010 EICMA in Milan in November where we might see the Aprilia Tuareg 1200 on show alongside the new Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200. The news comes from Roberto Colannino speaking at the opening of the new Piaggio showroom in Milan where the Dorsoduro 1200 and Moto Guzzi V7 Racer were presented. While the Moto Guzzi Norge GT 8V was also on show, the real news is coming from Aprilia.
For fans, the possibility of seeing the Aprilia Tuareg 1200 model at the 2010 EICMA is exciting news, as the historic bike gets some new, competitive updates for 2011. The Tuareg is the heir to the Capo Nord Aprilia bike and it will get a new V2 motor to replace the previous Rotax V2. The engine makes use of plenty of Dorsoduro 750 base but will also become the new Dorsoduro engine with an oil radiator and the six cylinders rearranged slightly.
This new 1200 motor will be installed on both the Dorsoduro and the new Tuareg and would seem to produce greater ease and performance at the top of its range. The motor has been designed with torque and low revs in mind although it still gets 130 hp. It should prove to be the closest competitor to the 1,200cc BMW GS and Yamaha Ténéré motors.
It looked like that the unveiling of 2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 at the Spazio Broletto 13 in Milan (Piaggio dealership, even if they’re calling it a boutique) was just a good preview to whet the appetites of Aprilia fans, before giving the Dorsoduro its official debut in front of the international press at the 2010 EICMA show.
However Aprilia had decided to jump the gun and besides the pics, they’ve also released this official video of their maxi enduro in action.
Instead of waiting for the EICMA show in November, Aprilia decided to show off their new Dorsoduro 1200 during the Piaggio Group’s grand opening of its new office in Milan, with Piaggio’s CEO Roberto Colaninno and Max Biaggi present for the unveiling.
The Dorsoduro’s new 1200cc is a 90-degree, liquid-cooled V-twin engine that develops 130hp (95kW) at 8700rpm and an impressive 115Nm of torque at 7200rpm in a steel trellis frame. It will feature ride-by-wire throttle with a three three-mode engine map selector.
Optional features will include twin-channel ABS and also the Aprilia Traction Control (ATC) system straight from from the Aprilia RSV4 superbike. The front wheel is a fully adjustable 43mm upside-down Sachs forks, while the rear has a fully adjustable Sachs shock absorber. Brakes will be Brembo’s 320mm radials up front with four pistons per caliper, while the rear will be 240mm disc with a single piston caliper.
The Dorsduro 1200 should be in showrooms at the end of October and priced around 11.700 euros, but if you want the full ABS and ATC model expect to add 1000 euros more to that base price.
