MCN took the Aprilia V4R APRC out for a ride on the track and road to compare it to other top-spec rivals on the naked scene: the MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR, the Triumph Speed Triple, the Ducati Streetfighter S and the KTM Super Duke R. That’s an impressive line-up and shows just where super nakeds have got to in recent years.
MCN says that the Aprilia sets a new benchmark, but frankly the competition is stiff. The Triumph has won every group test since it was launched. The Ducati obviously has some impressive on-board technology, as does the MV Agusta Brutale, and the KTM is the ultimate “hooligan” machine. See how the Aprilia compares in the video.
We don’t love the Aprilia Tuono V4R for its looks, but what it represents is a mighty naked bike that Aprilia has thrown some impressive technology at. This version of the Tuono could prove to be the naked bike that the market was missing - taking this segment to a new level and doing it in sophisticated style, whatever its dress might look like. This video gives us a look at the Tuono V4R from all angles, plus some weird translation and some dramatic rain effects that then don’t take us anywhere. But as we say, this Tuono is not really about style so perhaps Aprilia should have chosen a different kind of video. We can’t wait to read some of the first rides when they come out to see how the bike proves its stuff - check out the details of the Tuono V4R here.
The Piaggio Group brought a near avalanche of models across its brands to the 2010 EICMA show, but we thought we’d take a closer look at the new Aprilia Tuono V4 R, especially after a comment from “Faster 1″ made us think twice on how the market might take this Aprilia Tuono naked version. We’ll forgive Faster 1 for chiding us over comments we never made about how ugly the new Tuono V4 R is, and say this is his/her take on the bike:
Glad to see you guys pull the previous story/version about how ugly the V4R was. Smart move! I can’t get enough of he new Tuono. If it rides as good as it looks, it should be a blast in the canyons as well as a proper 1 or 2 up commuter. It is on my short list of bikes to consider now that it is time to replace my R1. I am also considering a Monster, but the current models are gutless in the engine compartment.. so it looks like a Tuono,, very nice
It turns out that Faster 1 might be onto something. Around EICMA time when the Aprilia Tuono pics first broke, there was plenty of discussion over the bike and its merits. A&R ran the headline that some bikes should keep their clothes on, while HFL described it as the most sophisticated naked ever. Meanwhile on Motoblog.it, they were calling it the market’s most exuberant naked which is kind of where Faster 1’s comment comes in.
