2011 World Superbike champion Carlos Checa took a dive today at the L’Aquarium Barcelona where he swam with the sharks (last year it was Jorge Lorenzo’s turn) tweeted, “Just arrived at Barcelona Aquarium, where I will swim with sharks, I hope they allready had a good breakfast…”
This is the second time that Checa has the opportunity to get up close with sharks as he already experienced the heady moment back in 2002 when he was still riding in MotoGP and entered the tank with Sete Gibernau and Alex Barros.
Checa is an experienced diver; he learned to dive at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef back in the late ’90s and has also dived off the Malaysian coast.

Like we said before, Jorge Lorenzo is always available and game to anything, and today the World Champion wanted to bid farewell to 2010 with a swim in the Barcelona Acquarium’s shark tank, where he planted his Lorenzo’s Land, in this case sea flag even there.
Lorenzo posted this comment on his Facebook page: “Today I’ve been diving with sharks in Barcelona Aquarium. Has been dangerous but funny, amazing! Do you want to come? That’s the best way to close this great year!” however in the after the dive press conference, also said “On track I’m using to swimming with sharks and when I arrived in MotoGP, I even had a great white shark in my tank.” Want to guess who he was referring to?
The Yamaha rider also added that, “It doesn’t always depend on us, but it’s also the bike, on it’s set-up and if you’re lucky or not. I’m confident that I can maintain my level or even improve it a bit.” Lorenzo doesn’t hide the fact that Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi will be tough opponents in 2011. “All three brands are close enough in terms of potential, we will need to work hard, Honda has a great bike and Ducati will do everything possibile to win the title with Valentino in their first year together.”
