BMW has created some new updates and kits for its “F” range for the 2012 model year. Starting with the BMW F 800 GS Triple Black kit, which takes on the same Triple Black details as used on the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. Available from September the F 800 GS Triple Black gets a new granite grey frame with updated graphics, a Nurburg Silver fork, black stems and a Rally black and grey seat.

All that comes finished with BMW’s new black livery for an overall mean look to this enduro model, and the Triple Black kit costs abut €170. The BMW F 650 GS on the other hand, is perfect for beginning riders with great daily use characteristics and short trip capabilities. The new F 650 GS Sun Yellow kit gives it a younger, more dynamic look with the same kind of updates as the F 800 GS but with a larger mudguard, touring windshield and bright yellow paint job. It costs about €270 and is available from September.

The BMW F 800 ST gets a new touring pack from August, which will also include new ABS brakes. That makes it a pricey little kit at about €970 but BMW says that purchasing the entire Touring kit saves about €330 off the price of just the ABS purchased as a separate optional extra.

In an interview with MCN, BMW boss Hendrik von Kuenheim has accused Triumph of copying the BMW F800GS in building its new Tiger 800 models. It seems that BMW is more than just a little rankled over some borrowing of off-road philosophy, with von Kuenheim saying that he is “ashamed for Triumph customers and dealers”.

Still, it appears that the Triumph Tiger is having a success all its own, with the British mag going on to say that on the UK market, the Tiger has become the fastest-selling new Triumph model in a decade. 700 units of the Tiger 800 and Tiger 800 XC models were sold in the first four months of 2011, and Triumph is now re-allocating production priorities for the UK market to cope with demand.

Just patriotism for the British bike, a copycat BMW or because the Triumph Tiger really does offer something unique for those who didn’t want to buy the BMW F800GS? The 2010 BMW F 650 GS and F 800 GS have new colours as a touch-up for the new year. The F 650 GS will be available in Lava Orange Metallic, White Aluminium Matt Metallic and Biarritzblue Metallic. The colours of Iceberg Silver Metallic, Flame Red and Azure Blue Metallic are no longer available.

The BMW F 800 GS 2010 is available in Lava Orange Metallic/Black Satin and Alpine White. The colours that will not be available are Dark Magnesium Metallic Matt and Sunset Yellow/Black Satin. The 2010 F 800 S will have shiny black wheels while the F 800 ST will have a black engine.

BMW is releasing its F 800 GS models in new colours for 2010. The two new colours available are Alpine White and Lava Orange/Black Satin (seen in the pics). The new paint finishes will also be available on the F 650 GS, updated in Lava Orange, White Alluminium and Biarritzblue.

Paint finishes Iceberg Silver Metallic, Flame Red and Azure Blue Metallic are no longer available. For the F 800 GS the paint finishes Dark Magnesium Metallic Matt and Sunset Yellow / Black Satin are no longer available. The F 800 ST also gets a new look, with the engine now available in black.

German manufacturer of motorcycle accessories, Hornig, has developed an interesting upgrade kit for the BMW F800GS.

The idea at the base of this kit is to transform the small GS into a worthy rival to its big sister, the R1200GS, increasing its tourism attitude. The accessories include a new and wider windshield, rear mudguard, anti-scratch elements, a larger brake pedal and new look at the front.

I had a look myself at the BMW F800GS rebuilding as a mean hypermotard; we showed you the photo gallery last week. This was an easy job for AC Schnitzer, adding 17-inch wheels with road tyres and returned some of the suspension settings. No engine changes were done. For me it’s an easy upgrade to rebuild your bike and it’s done in only a few hours! If anyone’s got tips on other easy upgrades, feel free to comment.

The BMW F800GS is a beautiful motorcycle. It has undisputed offroad capabilities, but with its 800cc and 85hp, it could even work offroad…

And once said is done, with the original wheels swapped for two 17-inch ones and road tyres. With a bit of suspension regulation, you’re ready to go. For the moment this is only a DYI solution, but who’s to say BMW can’t think about it?
