Claudio Castiglioni passes away

By Toni M.

claudio castiglioni

Claudio Castiglioni 63, the President of MV Augusta Motor S.p.A passed away early this morning in a clinic in his beloved Varese.

The far seeing and charismatic Italian manager owner of Cagiva with his brother Giancarlo, helped create along some the most iconic motorcycle models in the world and helped re-launch both Ducati and MV Agusta, bringing the Made in Italy marques to new and exciting heights.

We leave you with Castiglioni’s most famous quote:

“Motorcycles make us dream. They have different colours, they have different sounds. They have shapes that sometimes show what inspired their designers. Sometimes these creations are real works of art that turn the designer into an artist.”

Giacomo Agostini puts his Moto2 project on hold

By Toni M.

giacomo agostini

Giacomo Agostini has decided to put his Moto2 team on the back burner and wait out the 2010 season to see how things play out in the new championship series.

Thanks, but I’m not in a hurry.” said the most successful rider in motorcycle history.”I want to do things in a right way and there’s not enough time to build a team to suit the situation. We would have to work too quickly.

When asked if he has given up on the project, Ago replied: “Not at all, I’m going to stand at the window and see how this Moto2 takes off.

Agostini ‘s intention is to return to his project in the mid 2010 and assess the situation and work in prospect for the 2011 season, however the Italian champion could have an even more ambitious project with MV Agusta -Cagiva, which could have something to do with the recent MotoGP rule changes that will see the return of the 1000cc in 2012.

Moto2: Giacomo Agostini Racing Team?

By Toni M.

giacomo agostini

The well informed Italian website Motosprint is reporting that motorcycle racing legend Giacomo Agostini is thinking of entering a team in the new Moto2 series.

The project if it goes through would see the involvement of number of high profile people including Claudio Castiglioni, chairman of MV Augusta and Cagiva and the bike could actually be branded Cagiva, with Simone Corsi as the rider.

There are a couple of problems facing the team, besides the always hard task of finding a budget of at least 2.5 million euros to run in the championship.

New MV Agusta model on its way?

By Alison

MV Agusta F4 600

We’ve had an anonymous tip regarding a prototype that’s been travelling around Italy’s Lake Maggiore. It seems that the subject of the rumour is a red MV Agusta prototype, number plated, and with a style that’s similar to the Cagiva Mito, but with one short exhaust under the engine (in Kawasaki ER-6 style). Apparently the sound can’t possibly indicate a 125cc.

It’s probably too early to get excited about anonymous tip-offs, but could we be talking the 600 road version of a year ago? At the time, a possible 675cc bike developed with Benelli was talked about, much like that of the Daytona 675 and Street Triple.

No news is available, though we’re hoping that Harley Davidson’s acquisition of MV Agusta will bear its first fruit before long and if this is a 600, fingers crossed for a bike developed at Varese. If anyone manages to see this bike around, let us know!

This photo was sent to us by Marcot88, from the Passo del Bracco near Genoa. The protagonist of the photo is Marco himself who, with his Cagiva Mito 125, lost control and fell but thankfully without consequences to himself or his bike. Our advice would be to slow down…
